World-Wide, the Y2K Bug Had Little Bite in the End

At 1:20 a.m. Saturday, Koh Sung Eun's Y2K emergency help unit in South Korea fielded a call from a business in the southwestern city of Kwangju. His task team rushed to the scene.

"A customer returning a video was charged an eight million won ($7,000) fine, because the computer thought it was overdue 100 years," said Mr. Koh. He noted that the video-store owner had been using an old computer, a model that was widely advertised as having Y2K problems, and noncompliant software.
