They lead with heart. Vaughan's Filipino community is an example to the country -- hard working, patriotic, generous and infinitely kind. 🇨🇦🇵🇭 Proud to stand with them to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Vaughan's twinning with the City of Baguio in the Philippines.

After significantly increasing our wage offer, we made clear that we will stay at the table. We will never walk out on Ontario students. We are asking CUPE to do the same.

While we know kids deserve to be in class on Monday, we have a plan should CUPE proceed with this unnecessary strike. Our plan ensures the continuity of learning for kids, expanded supports for parents, and free child care for critical healthcare workers.

“Lecce said the gov’t is committed to remaining at the table & getting an agreement. But he said that if CUPE opts to strike, the gov’t will provide free childcare to eligible healthcare workers & childcare workers for the duration of any work stoppage."

Despite flatlined student enrolment: ✔️50% increase in education workers since 2002 ✔️Nearly 7,000 additional education workers hired since we took office in 2018 None of this matters unless kids are in class.

We are at the table ready to land a fair deal that invests more in lower income workers & keeps kids in class. It's time for CUPE to take yes for an answer & cancel the strike. These kids have endured enough of these strikes. 2,246 days out of class to be precise, since 1989.

We offered to protect the most generous sick leave, pension and health benefit plan in Canada.   CUPE declined it.   We offered to protect funds that have increased staffing levels across the province, funding 1800 education workers.   CUPE declined it.

We offered a significant increase to wages for all workers — a $335M increase. CUPE declined it. We offered an increase to all wages at a flat rate. CUPE declined it. We offered to invest more in student services than any government in Ontario's history. CUPE declined it.

Our government fulfilled our end of the deal by putting forward significantly improved offers. CUPE has rejected all of these offers. Ever so casually, they have again put the province on a path to a strike. My reflections below on what is really driving the latest strike. 🧵

This evening, I had the pleasure of attending the annual Cardinal’s Dinner charity event. This great fundraiser has raised nearly $6 million for local charities. I want to thank the Archdiocese of Toronto and all attendees for your work to help combat poverty in the GTA.

We are listening to parents who know their kids massively benefit while in school. Thanks for bringing us together to discuss the importance of helping kids catch up. We are ensuring students gain critical life and job skills to set them up for success.

Hiring educators based on merit, not seniority. We believe the most qualified teacher should always get the job.

Allowing #students to take #apprenticeship courses that count towards their high school diploma is a great incentive for those considering a career in the #skilledtrades. #onpoli

Preparing students with real life & job skills.   We are investing $4.8M to expand the Dual Credit program to help 1800 additional high school students graduate into good-paying careers in the skilled trades. Critical to 🇨🇦 future prosperity.

Strong Skilled Trades Sector = Strong Ontario Economy.  That’s why we are investing $4.8 million to expand the Dual Credit program to help more students graduate successfully into skilled trade careers. 👩‍🏭

Child care costs unacceptably increased by 400% under the former Liberal government. As we reduce child care costs by 50% on average this year, we are also working to attract new workers. The Fall Economic Statement expands pathways for 420 new Early Childhood Educators.

Now more than ever, Ontarians need a little extra help. That’s why we’re extending the gas tax cut for another year — so you can keep more of your money. Extending the tax cut will save the average Ontario household an extra $195 per year.

This morning, I visited ’s Veterans Centre. It’s important that we never forget the sacrifices made by those who have served to keep us safe and free. Please take a moment today to remember and thank those who have fought for our freedom.
