Etcher is a powerful OS image flasher. It protects a user from accidentally overwriting hard-drives by making drive selection obvious; and with validated flashing there is no more writing images to corrupted drives. It is also called balenaEtcher since it is developed by balena.

In addition, Etcher can flash directly Raspberry Pi devices that support usbboot. Use for .iso and .img files, as well as zipped folders to create live SD cards and USB flash drives.

Written with Electron for cross platform use (windows, macOS, and Linux).

  • Validated Flashing
  • Beautiful Interface

  • Open Source

User Reviews

  • it is useless. Δ± used it and never worked on any os. just used raspi imager tool after that. imager tool only worked.

  • Easy to use, based on Electron, works well and does not usually give errors of any kind!

  • great

  • Simple GUI with 3-step wizard is what I was looking for.

  • Open-source isn't equivalent to free. Sybase Open Watcom is stronger than AGPL, but it's NOT free, it's open-source. Therefore, licenses with weak copyleft can produce free software, licenses with strong copyleft can't. AGPL is weaker than Sybase's license.
