Legal Alternatives to P2P Filesharing
Swapping and sharing digital media such as music, films, TV shows, computer games and application software via peer-to-peer (P2P)
filesharing software is an easy, convenient - and inexpensive - way to acquire and enjoy them. However, if you either download copyrighted material in this way or
permit others to download copyrighted material from your computer, in virtually all
cases you are violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)
and Penn Copyright (www.upenn.edu/computing/policy/copyright.html) and Acceptable Use (www.upenn.edu/computing/policy/aup.html) policies.
There are, however, a number of alternative sources for obtaining these kinds of digital media at minimal cost, and in some cases at no cost
at all:
