Abstract

This paper describes an Open Technology video codec aimed at production and post production applications. The codec is being standardised by the SMPTE as VC-2 and is also known as Dirac Pro. VC-2 is part of a family of interoperable codecs, which also includes the Dirac video codec. This paper provides an overview of the history and background of VC-2, how it works, typical production applications and a guide to its features and performance.
