A Welcome Message from The Speaker of the National Assembly

Eighteen years have elapsed since the National Assembly of Seychelles was officially created. Each year has seen our institution grown from strength to strength. Today, the National Assembly is at the centre-stage of politics and has rightly claimed its place in the democratic evolution of our small country as it ventures on its quest for excellence.

 

From the Board of Civil Commissioners in 1872 to the present National Assembly, we, the People of Seychelles, have spared no effort to exploit our infinite capacity to learn, assimilate and evolve, but always propelled by our common desire to build a strong, prosperous and united nation.

THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PROPOSE BUDGET COMMITTEE TO BETTER SCRUTINIZE NATIONAL BUDGET

 

The legislature, as a crucial arm of government, should continue to exert its constitutional role by having a greater participation and involvement in the management of the national budget. To help achieve that, the National Assembly needs to set up a new Budget Committee which shall engage fully in all four cycles - drafting, legislating, implementing and auditing - of the budget process, and a permanent, qualified and competent staff will be required to provide technical assistance to the Committee.

 

This was one of the recommendations made at the two-day “Parliament and the Budget Workshop” which concluded today, at the Coco D’Or Hotel at Beau Vallon.
