Paint Tool in Windows 98 Does Not Support .pcx Files

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a ZSoft Image file (.pcx) in the Microsoft Paint tool, you are unable to do so.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the version of Paint included in Windows 98 does not include support for .pcx files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use a different program such as Microsoft Imaging for Windows to open or view .pcx files. To start Imaging, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Imaging.

MORE INFORMATION

The version of Paint included in Microsoft Windows 95 does include support for .pcx files, but the version of Paint included in Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release versions 2.x does not include this support.
