Mitsuda reveals willingness for new Chrono, info on Cross arrange

Before getting to that, please note that the layout looks broken in Internet Explorer. This is because Internet Explorer is a brokeass browser. Please bear with it for now.

~

N-Sider recently conducted an interview with Yasunori Mitsuda before the opening night of the PLAY concert. Within the interview, Mitsuda noted that he would love to compose for a possible new Chrono game, and that the Chrono Cross Arrange would be wrapped up sometime this year. He also noted it would be an acoustic sort of thing (in contrast to Brink of Time, the acid jazz Chrono Trigger arrangement). The interview is here. Additionally, I have suddenly found myself without contacts with pictures or stories about the PLAY concert, so if you were in attendance, feel free to venture any material you have. Discuss

Weeky Poll

It's back for a run of indeterminate length. This week:

What is Chrono Trigger's real flaw?

News and Updates

Fan Projects Update: CTNP, Behind the Scenes
Just to give everyone a quick update, there are currently 3 major things in the works for the Chrono Trigger Novel Project (aside from the progression of the novel itself):

  • 1. New Demo Chapter (Ch's 2-5) Release, probably to be available by end of summer

  • 2. Chrono Revival, a new site for the combined efforts of CTNP and the CT Remake Petition to get more petition signatures for both (and to make it a little easier to sign)

  • 3. CTNP main site (often called "CTSite") redesign, to be started once Chrono Revival is up

As far as forum discussion goes, if anyone has specific thoughts, ideas, or suggestions for any of the above points, they are always welcome.

Thanks!

Fan Projects Update: Chrono Script Draft Now Available
Hello! I am here to announce tangible progress on my fan project, Chrono Script! My goal is to develop the story of Chrono Trigger (and perhaps Chrono Cross too) into a well-crafted screenplay that accurately captures all that made the game(s) so great.

The latest draft of my Chrono Trigger script will always be accessible here. Currently the script covers through the first trip to 600 AD. I encourage everyone to have a read and give feedback either in this thread, via PM, IM, email, or by visiting the official forum. Also feel free to check back from time to time to see what's new.

I am always interested in having more help. Chrono Script is an open project, meaning that everyone is welcome to come and go as necessary and to put as much effort in as desired. If you're interested, come on over to the forum, or at least let me know so I can inform you when updated drafts become available.

Cheers!

Chrono Trigger Doubleshot: Price & Flaw Studies
Two new features are up. The first is a study aiming to discover whether Chrono Trigger is rare compared to its SNES brethren and what the average price is for different sales. Fan Projects Update: Chrono Crisis Sprite and Artwork Update
Progress is still coming along at a good pace, as the game script is about 40% done, and the sprites are being done at a good pace. We also have a new addition to the team, Validus, former artist for CTRP, who's jumped right in and started doing NPC, enemy, and boss artwork.

Xavier:

Matison:

Celia:

Miss Vanessa:

Lena has completed the bases for the CT cast (And Serge and Kid) :

The artwork and sprites have been done for two NPCs, Queen Amelia and Princess Lecea, Celia's family:

Amelia Guardia

Name Meaning: Amelia (Industrious, Admiring)
Age: 40
Sex: Female
Home: Guardia Castle
Occupation: Queen of Guardia
Overview: Queen Amelia has solely ruled Guardia since as long as anyone can remember. Since she doesn't actually rule the kingdom anymore, she's had a lot of free time to tend to other things. Since becoming Queen, she's built many monuments to honor Guardia's past such as the Guardia Museum and came up with the idea to hold a big concert on the eve of the new millenium. Lately something has been troubling her but she refuses to reveal what's truly on her mind.

Concept Art:

Lecea Guardia

Name Meaning: Of noble birth
Age: 15
Sex: Female
Home: Guardia Castle
Occupation: Princess
Overview: Lecea is Celia's younger sister and second in line to become Queen. She is very jealous of Celia and does what she can to make her miserable. She is also lazy and has no desire to explore the world outside of the castle walls, unlike Celia who longs for adventure.

And congrats to Dai Akako, who won our fan art competition with the following entry:

More to come soon!

Chrono Cross: The Good, The Bad, and The Fans
You have heard the complaints yourself: The game isn’t a true sequel to Chrono Trigger; the plot is confusing and riddled with holes; there are too many characters and yet none of our favorites, such as Crono and Magus; the music is boring and less epic; time travel was not a part of the gameplay; the list goes on and on. Is there any substance to these complaints? We can all agree that the game has its flaws, but what exactly are those flaws? To put it simply, are we dealing with a great game, or aren’t we? At last the Compendium has undertaken to resolve this vital question. Find the answer here in the latest feature of the Compendium.

Unused Cross Art revealed
Thanks to a Gamefaqs user named Blik, several pieces of art detailing unused Chrono Cross locations have come to the Compendium's attention. Specifically, these come from a GamePro guide to the game that was taken down; four images were rescued by way of the Wayback machine, though a few others were lost since they did not archive the first page. Three other images come from Yasuyuki's Honne blog (he is the artist of the Chrono series). Lastly, an advertisement for Monolith Soft and Xenosaga has been added that also featured his work; it strongly resembles the Cross style and Cape Howl in particular. I have added them to the Chrono Cross Beta page. Take a look and have fun wondering what these might have been used for. We could learn more if we could translate a couple paragraphs on Honne's blog; honestly, the Compendium really needs someone who can help with Japanese time to time.

Fanfiction Update
New fanfiction pieces are up, including a lot of stuff in the backlog. Specifically, new entries are Asuyuka - Sleeping Sun, Chains of Fate - Legacy, Mystik3eb - Scars of Time, Shadow - Time Circuits, Great Farki - Observers: Black Wind, Grey the Angel - Chrono Crystal: A Love Story Across Time, Leebot - The Wraith of Gaia, Mavix - Chrono Adventure, and Rockin' Nikki - Lost Tales: The Adventures of Pierre, Nikki, and Miki. Additionally, a new piece of fanart detailing Crono in a Kingdom Hearts style by Doozer509 is up. Check them out; head to Fanfiction, and for the art, click here. Additionally, good news. The Chrono Trigger Retranslation is seventy percent done. When the last 30% is translated, we will release the script.

Site issues
Thanks to that idiot who uploaded a White Stripes album, the Compendium's media server has been audited for copyrighted material. You may have to deal with broken links for a while. It's a little ironic, I guess; everyone expected Square Enix to be the one to ultimately give us problems. If you have innovative hosting solutions or real webspace, you might as well PM me just in case. I suppose it's fitting this terrible situation has been caused by a terrible band.

Fan Projects Update: Chrono Trigger Remake Project - Unfinished Business
This was compiled a few months ago. It's a .zip archive that includes much of what the CTRP team were working on, including screenshots of levels and sketches of characters. There are also screenshots of character models and other goodies, including a movie touring the End of Time. Even though it was made months ago, I've been waiting in hopes that the CTRP team would finally add the stuff they missed the first time, including the official art used on the website shortly before they received the C&D order. However, it doesn't seem like they're going to finish it, so here is the final product. Please note that if you want to hear John and bLiNd's contributions, consult Music (Chrono Trigger) and search for Chrono Trigger Remake Project. I discluded them from the .zip file so that it would be not inordinately difficult to download. Speaking of which, you can get it here. Enjoy looking at what CTRP was working on. In other news, the CT Flash Project is officially closing its doors. I wish them well in their future projects.

Fan Projects Update: Chrono Trigger OSV Live News
Greetings Fellow Chrono Fans.
Well it has been a long time since the beginning of this project. During some periods it has been bustling with activity, and at other times, dead. And thus, it has become a little of an annoyance to me for regrouping everyone once every 4 months. It's just a lot of work. However, the project is not done.

In hopes of keeping it alive, I have allowed Piano players to be able to do live MIDI recordings, instead of just live from the microphone. I hope that this will boost production a little, and hopefully in the end make one hell of an album.

I apologize for the long wait, and I thank all of you, who have stayed at least slightly interested.
