Welcome
The staff of
Library, Information and Technology Services welcomes you to our home
page. Our organization represents a combination of library, computing,
language and media resources and electronic services on the Mount
Holyoke College campus. Our group facilitates the creative use of
information and technology for the College. We support the educational
priorities of the College by providing instruction, materials, staff
expertise and equipment to sustain learning, teaching and research,
and the College's administrative functions.
LITS' collections of books, periodicals, software,
archival materials, media and computing equipment, films and videos,
electronic indices and full text material, databases, mediated classrooms,
computing, language and multimedia production labs have been carefully
selected or developed to support the college curriculum and the
interests of faculty and students.
As important as our resources are the people
who staff our facilities. We hire experts in information management
and retrieval, in programming, in teaching computing and media skills,
but they must also want to share what they know with faculty, staff
and students. They are people who are interested in giving you the
information and assistance you need to fully exploit LITS resources.
Since we want LITS resources to be used, a primary
function of the staff is to teach people how to use them. General
tours are regularly available to help you become familiar with the
location of resources. Upon request, LITS staff conduct workshops
on how to find and use specific kinds of tools and equipment.
LITS has tried to set up policies that help,
rather than hinder, your use of resources. If you run up against
a policy that you can't understand or that you question, you will
get either an explanation or a joint exploration of how the policy
might be altered to accomplish your and LITS' aims. We are always
looking for ways to be more responsive to you, so let us know what
you need.
