20 years, what a ride. When I somehow landed an internship with Intel, I felt like I was competing for my dream job. I grew up with Intel Inside, and fixing my family’s PC was a childhood hobby—even after I downloaded a virus that wiped out my accountant father’s entire tax records.
Corny, but being at Intel hasn’t been a single dream job; it’s been a bunch of dream jobs. Some of them more lucid than others, and some of them maybe venturing a little into the other sleep state (S6? IYKYK).
The sub fab, substrates, IOT (and its many names), M&A, Telco, Datacenter, Networking, Storage, Edge and beyond. One thing has always been constant: I’ve always been fascinated and in awe of Intel’s technology. I’m deeply grateful to the technical mentors—formal and informal—who have put up with 20 years of silly questions. Your generosity and patience have made a huge difference.
I don’t know if this is pure chance or a function of talent density, but I also had the privilege to be in close proximity to amazing leaders. Some led with precision operational rigor, some led with brilliant strategy, but most importantly, and what I remember most fondly: those who led with heart. And a rare few including my last leader who were all 3. Thank you to those amazing managers and leaders for setting the standard.
Speaking of managers and leaders, to borrow a quote from Washington (or Lin-Manuel, if you choose): “I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to think it probable that I may have committed many errors.” I had the privilege and honor of leading and managing many Intel’ers. Memories made, cool stuff delivered. Apologies for my defects and many errors. Thank you all, to borrow a phrase from an amazing Intel leader, you were the magic always.
Before the obligatory badge photo: The future of Intel, especially at the Edge, is bright. I’m not running from Intel; I’m running to something amazing. The deep customer focus, winning roadmap, and amazing people of the Edge group are going to change the world. To our customers and partners at the Edge, you are in great hands.
So, to Intel, released in ’94, the same year we got our first PC with Intel Inside: “It Was All A Dream…”
