✨APPLICATION OF 3D LASER SCANNING TECHNOLOGY THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT LIFECYCLE: PECC2’S IMPLEMENTATION CAPABILITY✨ -Part 2- ✳️Over the years, PECC2 has successfully deployed 3D Laser Scanning technology at a series of key projects. Typically, in 2021, this technology was effectively applied at the 500kV Vinh Tan SPP (S2B) Project and the VT4E Wastewater Treatment Plant As-built Project. Following that success, the solution was implemented at the Tan Thuan Wind Power Plant in 2022. For the Tan Thuan Wind Power Plant, PECC2’s Scan-to-BIM team performed scanning and BIM modeling for items including wind turbine areas, a 1.4 km 22kV overhead line, a 22/110kV step-up substation, and a 6.2 km 110kV transmission line. By 2023, the 3D Laser Scanning system proved its effectiveness at the Circulating Water Pumping Station of Vinh Tan 1 Thermal Power Plant and the PECC2 Innovation Hub office building. Most recently, in 2024 and 2025, PECC2 successfully applied this advanced technology to survey the spillway section of the Son La Hydropower Plant and the Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant. ✳️These projects, spanning various asset types - from power factories and grids to industrial infrastructure - not only reflect a diverse scope of operations but also serve as clear evidence of PECC2's flexible adaptation and field implementation capabilities under complex technical conditions that demand high precision and strict schedules. ✳️Deep investment in equipment systems, combined with technological mastery and accumulated experience, has allowed PECC2 to move beyond providing simple surveying services. ✨PECC2 APPLIES BIM MODELING IN THE FEASIBILITY STUDY PHASE (FS) OF THE YEN BAI 1 BIOMASS POWER PLANT PROJECT✨ ✳️ In 2025, Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2) and eREX Yen Bai Biomass Power Co., Ltd. officially signed the EPC contract for the Yen Bai 1 Biomass Power Plant Project (50 MW). To reach this strategic cooperation agreement and aim for commercial operation in early 2028, one of the key technical factors that helped PECC2 demonstrate its capability was the pioneering application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) starting from the Feasibility Study stage. ✳️ The Yen Bai 1 Biomass Power Plant is planned to be constructed in Dong Cuong Commune, Lao Cai Province, with a configuration consisting of one generating unit with a capacity of 50 MW, a fuel storage yard and fuel receiving system, internal plant roads, and other supporting facilities. The project also includes the construction of an 11/110 kV step-up substation with a capacity of 1×63 MVA, the development of a single-circuit 110 kV transmission line to connect the plant to the 110 kV busbar of Van Yen 110 kV Substation, and the expansion of one additional 110 kV bay at the Van Yen Substation to create the grid connection point for the project. ✳️ Instead of relying solely on traditional 2D design drawings, PECC2 digitized the entire design concept into a 3D BIM model right from the FS phase. The complete structure of the plant - from the boiler system and steel structures to the fuel receiving conveyor system at Dong Cuong Commune - was visually simulated in a digital environment. ✳️ This BIM model enables engineers to perform Clash Detection among architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) components directly in the digital environment. This capability is particularly critical for the biomass fuel receiving and transportation system, an area that requires high operational continuity and strict fire and explosion safety standards. ✳️ In addition, based on actual topographic survey data, the BIM model supports the optimization of the plant layout, accurate calculation of earthwork volumes, and proper positioning of key facilities such as the boiler system and the 63 MVA substation. As a result, the project can utilize land resources more efficiently while also facilitating future operation and maintenance activities. ✳️ Beyond merely transforming 2D drawings into a 3D model, BIM at PECC2 also integrates both geometric and non-geometric data for each component, equipment, and system.
