There’s been a noticeable shift in the UK Internal Audit landscape since the start of this year across financial services. Some key observations: • Audit functions are remaining lean. • Demand is growing for specialists in non-financial risk, Cimate Risk, IT and data-led auditing. • Hybrid working continues to dominate, though some banks & Insurers are subtly increasing their office presence. • Salaries have remained steady, but we’re seeing counteroffers at all levels • The competition for senior internal audit talent, especially in Banking and Insurance, remains high. NFRA has published an illustrative Risk & Response Memorandum on ROMM assessment at the assertion level for revenue, as part of its staff series. The document is a practical walkthrough of how SA 315 and SA 240 are expected to be applied in practice — covering: • identification of inherent and control risks at the assertion level, • linkage of ROMMs to specific assertions, including fraud risks in revenue, • articulation of what can go wrong, related controls, and planned audit responses, and • the importance of clear documentation and professional judgment, rather than mechanical risk scoring. On the back of the illustrative audit strategy memorandum document released in the first week of November, this is another relevant illustrative document which will serve as a very useful reference for audit engagement teams, and other professionals supporting engagement teams — particularly in areas that continue to attract regulatory focus.
