To address key areas of crime and vulnerability, UK constabularies can use visual analysis software to pull together data from myriad sources for the prevention of harm, the detection of crime, and the identification of risk; Seth Cooke, a former Avon and Somerset Police intelligence analyst and now i2 Group technical and tradecraft specialist, explains how this technology powerfully supports approaches to knife crime, antisocial behaviour, and violence against women and girls. ❝Technologies exist to help modernise and better equip forces; visual analysis software is one such technology, and we are seeing its impact in areas identified by ministers as priorities in their drive to make the streets safer.❞ ❝When risk is driven by association, network analysis is key. While machine learning algorithms promise predictive power, they are opaque and lack explainability – whereas network charts are simple, diagrammatic, and straightforward to operationalise.❞ ❝The three ASB categories in the National Incident Category List – personal, nuisance and environmental – are insufficiently descriptive, complicating diagnosis of trends, linked series, and the application of hotspotting techniques.❞ ❝Analysis of ASB networks can reveal predatory organised crime groups recruiting vulnerable children, expose child sexual exploitation risk, and highlight adults at risk of cuckooing.❞ ❝My data-driven analysis has demonstrated how misogynist keywords contained in the reported speech of an offender, at the time of the offence, can be reported upon to identify misogyny as a clear component of many incidents and crimes.❞ https://lnkd.in/ee_g9_AB #lawenforcement #policing #police
