🧬 €2.5M EIC Transition award to advance siRNA delivery for hard-to-treat cancers Vector Bioscience Cambridge is in the final phase of GENERA, a €2.5 million EIC Transition project awarded under the Challenge call for novel RNA delivery methods and therapies. The project tackles a core bottleneck in RNA therapeutics: delivery that is robust enough to translate in vivo, starting with pancreatic cancer. Vector’s metal-organic framework (MOF)-based delivery platform is designed to protect siRNA and support targeted delivery and tumour exposure, while building a preclinical package aligned with regulatory and CMC expectations. “Through the GENERA project, we are generating in vivo data that demonstrate effective and targeted delivery, with improved stability, biodistribution, and tumour exposure, while also supporting manufacturing scale-up and the development of robust preclinical data aligned with regulatory and CMC expectations.” says Lluna Gallego Segrelles, CEO & Co-Founder. Last week, we had the pleasure of taking part in a Bell Ringing event at ideaSpace, Cambridge Enterprise, where our office is based. We were invited to celebrate The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of Vector’s own technology: MOFs. We shared why this Nobel Prize matters to Vector and to the field more broadly.  Vector is the first company in focused on applying these materials as a platform technology to deliver drugs in oncology, building on more than 15 years of research from Prof. David Fairen-Jimenez’s group Cambridge University Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Cambridge. The Nobel Prize represents a global recognition, validates the impact and potential of this technology and more importantly, reinforces its relevance for real-world applications in healthcare. It was meaningful to celebrate this milestone with the IdeaSpace community, exchange ideas with fellow founders, and reflect on what this moment means for the future of MOF-based technologies and for Vector’s journey. The Nobel Prize for MOFs: A milestone for reticular chemistry and for the future of drug delivery This year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded for the development of MOFs, recognising a technology that is reshaping materials science and opening new possibilities across many sectors. At Vector Bioscience Cambridge, we are developing a MOF-based drug delivery platform to improve the effectiveness and safety of cancer treatments and precision medicine. Our technology is built on more than 15 years of MOF research from Prof David Fairen-Jimenez’s group at the University of Cambridge. It is great to see this field receive global recognition at such a key moment for its translation into real-world applications, including healthcare. As the new year starts, it is a good moment to look back at what we achieved in 2025 and to set our goals for 2026. The journey over the past year has been shaped by teamwork and by the individual contributions that, together, move Vector Bioscience Cambridge forward. Progress is rarely linear, and what makes the difference is having a team that works through challenges, learns along the way, and keeps building. We start 2026 with clear objectives, shared commitment, and the knowledge that what we do as a team matters! Looking forward to the year ahead! 💪
