Sometimes what looks like “challenging behaviour” is actually a sign of disconnection. Children who do not feel safe, included or understood may communicate this through: ❌ withdrawal ❌ defiance ❌ shutdown ❌ avoidance ❌ dysregulation ❌ aggression Belonging creates the relational safety, a protective factor that allows children to regulate, engage and succeed. Our new SKILLS TRAINING: PRACTICAL STRATEGIES TO CREATING BELONGING AND INCLUSION, FRI 3RD JULY, 3.30-5.00PM explores practical strategies schools can use to strengthen belonging across everyday interactions, environments and systems. Human beings are wired for connection. Research in neuroscience consistently shows that belonging and emotional safety are fundamental to healthy brain development, emotional regulation and learning. When children feel excluded, disconnected or unsafe, the brain becomes more focused on survival than learning, impacting: • concentration • memory • emotional regulation • behaviour • relationships A strong sense of belonging helps children feel safe enough to engage, participate and take risks in learning. It central to wellbeing, inclusion and school culture. Our new Skills Training explores the neuroscience and practical application of creating belonging within schools and organisations.
