Delivering more sustainable and resilient communities across the West of England was the focus for our latest Development of Land Seminar last week. We were pleased to welcome Stephen Peacock, Chief Executive of the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (WECA) to talk to our audience about the emerging strategies that will shape development and transport across our region. Delivering more sustainable and resilient communities across the West of England took centre stage at our latest Development of Land seminar. This morning we welcomed a full house of built‑environment professionals who joined us to hear from our keynote speaker Stephen Peacock, Chief Executive of the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority. Stephen joined us for an insightful Q&A with Rosalyn Trotman, our Head of Development of Land, covering a range of topics including: 📈 Strategies currently being created by WECA to usher in growth for the region 🏘️ The current state of housing, transport and connectivity across the West of England 📢 The receptiveness of central government and the power of a unified voice to inspire change This was followed by a discussion on the ‘headaches’ of development by Thrings Real Estate Partners Naomi Manton and Mary Waters with a run through of simple solutions that can be taken to remedy them. It was great to see so many clients, contacts and familiar faces at the seminar – we look forward to seeing you at our next event! #Thrings #DevelopmentOfLand #WestOfEngland #WECA

We are pleased to have been successful in the Court of Appeal, securing a significant decision for our client that also provides vital clarification on how fallback positions should be approached in planning enforcement cases. Acting for Titchfield Festival Theatre, our Planning and Environment team successfully challenged the approach to enforcement taken by Fareham Borough Council, the Planning Inspectorate and the High Court. In this article, Fred Quartermain explores the judgment, its wider implications and changes to caselaw, and what it means for planning enforcement going forward. 🔗 Read more: https://hubs.li/Q048sDvx0 #PlanningLaw #CourtOfAppeal #LegalUpdate #Thrings #PlanningEnforcement

Supporting team Thrings at the Bristol Bears Foundation’s annual Corporate Tag Rugby Tournament 🏟️ This is one of my favourite annual events because of what the Foundation’s work achieves, using rugby to help tackle (excuse pun) inequality by inspiring healthier, stronger and more connected communities across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire: https://lnkd.in/e9PTF86m As a member of my firm’s community engagement group I love the endless opportunities there are in Bristol to give back to the community and support these projects. It also helps that I’m supported by Thrings to jump in to all of them! The team smashed it on the field and made it to the finals - you can see them in action and support Bristol Bears Foundation later on at Ashton Gate Stadium 🏆 Well done team: Joseph Watkins Katie McAlone Dan Gibson Joe Siman Bailey Wearden Robyn Guy Harry S.

Construction contracts used throughout the built environment sector have been updated, with businesses needing to adopt the modernised versions to remain compliant with the law. The Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) – the UK’s leading organisation for standardised construction contracts, guidance notes, and legal documentation – has confirmed that its 2016 contact suite has been withdrawn as of March 2026, with its 2024 edition the only one now available for purchase. Natalia Sokolov, Partner in Thrings’ Construction and Engineering team, takes a look at the JCT 2024 changes and the shift they bring to managing risk, responsibility and collaboration. https://hubs.li/Q047Gp360

It was great to welcome property agents and landlords from across the South West to our Bath office yesterday morning for a timely legislative update from our Property Litigation team. This included: 🏠An overview of the history of leasehold reform from Simon McIlroy and Joshua Gladwin, examining what impact landlords will face through the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 and the proposed Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill. 🏠A briefing on the Renters Rights Act 2025, led by Katie McAlone and Simeon McKenzie explored the timeline of various changes coming to the law – from the abolition of assured periodic tenancies and the end of Section 21 Notices to the impact on student accommodation and the restrictions around rent increases. Thank you to everyone who joined us for such an engaging discussion, you can view the information here: https://lnkd.in/eZ2vH4Ks If you’d like to learn more or discuss how these changes may affect you, our Property Litigation team would be happy to help. #propertylitigation #rentersrightact2025 #thrings
