CQC REGULATION OF EVENT HEALTHCARE: WHAT THE SECTOR NEEDS TO KNOW As Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulation of event healthcare moves from prospect to reality, it's important to see it in context Behind the scenes, the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care (FPHC) has an active working group developing updated competency frameworks specifically for event healthcare, guidance on medical risk assessment for sporting and cultural events, and improved data collection to inform both. UKCMA has been working with NEMAG to support these developments. Following insightful discussions between Dr Joe Cosgrove, Dean Newman, Eric Stuart QPM and Anne Marie Chebib BA (Hons), PGDip, UKCMA shares the view that event organisers should exercise caution when engaging external support in this space until updated FPHC competency guidance has been made public. Support offered in the interim may not reflect where that framework lands. CQC has also recently launched a formal consultation on its proposed guidance for providers and the wider sector. This is an important opportunity to shape how the final guidance works in practice. The consultation closes 19th June 2026. NINE YEARS. ALWAYS IN OUR THOUGHTS. 🕯️ Today we remember the 22 lives lost in the Manchester Arena bombing, nine years ago. Our thoughts are with the families, the survivors, the first responders, and everyone whose life was changed that night. For those of us in crowd management, this anniversary is never just a date. It is a reminder of why the work we do exists, and of the responsibility we carry every time crowds gather. We remember them. #UKCMA #UK #Manchester #ManchesterArena #MartynsLaw #Crowds #Events #CrowdProfs #EventProfs #StrongerTogether #SaferCrowdsSaferVenues

THE KING'S SPEECH: SECURITY, POLICING AND ACCOUNTABILITY The King's Speech has set out 37 bills for the coming parliamentary session, several of which carry direct relevance for those working in Crowd Management, security and public safety. The Public Office (Accountability) Bill, known as the Hillsborough Law, will introduce a statutory duty of candour for public officials. Its passage represents a significant moment for accountability across public safety. The Police Reform Bill will reshape policing in England and Wales, creating larger regional forces and a new national unit to investigate the most serious crimes. For Crowd Management professionals working alongside police at events and in public spaces, structural reform at this scale has real implications for how Safety Advisory Groups and operational partnerships function in the years ahead. Following the Southport attack, the National Security Bill will criminalise content that glorifies, trivialises or normalises serious violence. The Cyber Security and Resilience Bill will extend reporting obligations to data centres as part of a broader national resilience framework. We will be monitoring developments closely as the Government's legislative programme takes shape. THE UK OUTDOOR EVENTS SECTOR IS WORTH £25 BILLION. SAFETY IS ITS FOUNDATION. Congratulations to The Purple Guide and The Power of Events on their collaborative research. Quantification of the UK outdoor events sector as the largest component of a £61.6 billion industry, delivering over 200 million attendance occasions every year. Across every focus group in the study, with over 100 industry professionals, safety was rated "Essential" more than any other theme. Not compliance. Not cost. Safety. As a value. That is the world our members work in every day and it is why professional Crowd Management matters. Wishing Peter Heath all the very best as he announces his retirement as Managing Director of PLASA. Peter has been a brilliant supporter of UKCMA over the years, and we're glad to hear this isn't goodbye. He'll be continuing to represent PLASA during the transition, staying involved with #WeMakeEvents, and moving into a consultancy role post-retirement, so the industry will still have the benefit of his experience and commitment. After a decade leading PLASA through some genuinely transformative years, Peter leaves the Association in outstanding shape. That legacy speaks for itself. Here's to the next chapter, Peter. We look forward to staying connected. 🔗 Read the full announcement via LSi Online https://lnkd.in/edtTbBex #UKCMA #UK #PLASA #Events #CrowdProfs #EventProfs #StrongerTogether #SaferCrowdsSaferVenues

AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR SECTOR 👇 A Statutory Instrument laid in Parliament this week will, subject to final scrutiny, grant the Security Industry Authority prescribed person status under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 from 2 June 2026. In plain terms: workers in the private security industry will have whistleblowing status and legal protection when raising genuine concerns about wrongdoing directly with the SIA. A regulator that can hear from the ground up is a more effective regulator. This is a positive step. Thanks to vice Chair Paul Macarthur MSyI Dir.IPSA for flagging this.
