Our response to the resident doctors announcing strike action Responding to resident doctors announcing new strike action, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will be livid that resident doctors are walking out for the 16th time in three years. “After multiple inflation-busting pay rises and record NHS funding, the BMA is still demanding more despite being offered a deal that would have seen some of them earn six figures. “The new health secretary must stand firm and not allow the NHS to be held hostage by union militancy."

Our response to the chancellor's cost of living plan Responding to chancellor Rachel Reeves’s cost of living plan, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will see right through this so-called ‘cost of living’ plan as little more than a sticking plaster from the chancellor whose own policies have made life more expensive in the first place. “While cutting VAT on summer attractions and suspending the fuel duty hike is welcome, it comes after Labour piled more costs onto employers through higher national insurance contributions and recklessly pursued the net zero agenda. “If Reeves genuinely wants to improve the cost of living, she should start by lowering Britain’s crushing tax burden.”

Our response to the transport secretary's speech on resetting HS2 Responding to the transport secretary Heidi Alexander’s speech on the reset of High Speed Rail Two, John O’Connell of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will be disgusted at the way they have been swindled to pay for this white elephant. “HS2 has become a monument to government waste, spiralling costs and catastrophic mismanagement on an industrial scale. “If this government had any sense, they would finally draw a line under this fiasco and consign HS2 to the dustbin of history where it belongs. Our response to reports that Reeves will scrap the fuel duty hike Responding to reports that Rachel Reeves’s plans to scrap the fuel duty hike, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: “Motorists will be relieved to hear that the chancellor is scrapping the planned fuel duty hike. “After months of dither and delay, where families and businesses have been hammered by higher prices at the pump, a break for taxpayers is well overdue. “The government should go further by committing to freeze fuel duty for the rest of this parliament.”
