Thanks SQLBits! (Again) Those 4 days were the best 3 weeks I’ve in 6 months! Yes, its a meme thing, but I got a week of vacation before and after and more time doing fun things than I have in a very long time. First time in Europe and ready to go back. Maybe Italy? South of France? Spain? The conference was great and is a strong consideration for going next year. I even got some solid leads out of it that came up to me, rather then me shoving business cards in everyone’s hands. Which is good, because I don’t have any ;) Kevin

Two weeks later and the dust has settled after SQLBits😄 What an amazing few days spent with great people, lots of learning, and a huge amount of positive energy. There were so many interesting sessions and topics, great networking, conversations with sponsors, and of course… awesome swag 👀 I met many new people, caught up with old friends, and came back home with a head full of ideas (and probably too many stickers). A huge thank you to the organizers for creating such a fantastic event, for organizing the crèche and Code Club. Special thanks to the whole #TeamOrange you are awesome! Already looking forward to the next one! 🧡 Mikey, Adriana, Jacek #SQLBits #DataCommunity #Networking #TeamOrange

Nice feedback from my presentation "Your MSSQL environment is vulnerable and I can prove it" at SQLBits. There is always one person that give-me 4 stars :-) always haha... Got some great comments like: “FUCK that was an eye opener, great session, that was invaluable.” “Terrifying examples, I have a lot of things to check on Monday” “Engaging, but very scary”

A lot of you came up to us after the SQLBits session asking where you could learn more about what we showed. This is for you. 👨🏻🔬👨🏻🔧👨🏻💻Scott B. and I had 100 minutes on stage to talk through how AI is changing data engineering — and to run a live build of a dbt pipeline + Power BI model using a Claude Code plugin we've been working on. We didn't reach the finish line (the clock beat us), but the architecture, the agent delegation, the hooks, the shared memory — all of that ran in front of the room. I've written the whole thing up: what we showed, what didn't quite work, and why "context engineering" is the part of this story most teams are still missing. → Full article in the first comment 👇 And for everyone who asked "when's the next chance to actually build this?" — Monday 1 June 2026. We're running a full-day workshop, Data Platform Next Step, where you walk out with your own version of the plugin running against your stack. Not a sample dataset. Your data, your warehouse, your BI tools. Tickets: https://lnkd.in/eyErX9nG Big thanks to 👨🏻🔬👨🏻🔧👨🏻💻Scott B. for being the calmest person in the room when the clock started running out — and to everyone who stuck around afterwards to chat. #DataEngineering #AI #dbt #PowerBI #SQLBits #ClaudeCode

Had the pleasure and privilege to spend 3 days at SQLBits in Newort, Wales with likeminded & passionate data people from various field of expertise. Some notable highlights that I will take with me: On day 1 I spent the full day with Brent Ozar learning how to identify and potentially fix dev vs prod problems where a query runs fast in dev but for some reason it's slow in prod with a fun KPop Demon Hunters twist. The rest of the days were a bit more spontaneous with 40-50min sessions since I felt that 3 training days in a row from last year left me completely exhausted. Some of the highlights from the second day include a panel hosted once again by Brent with Ásgeir Gunnarsson, Kellyn Gorman, Tracy A. Boggiano, Niko Carvalho Neugebauer & Amy Abel on how the cloud has changed in 20 years, what were the expectations and what didn't live up to the promise. Since I've grown to love (not always tho!) SQL Server I couldn't miss the session by Bob Ward on what's new in the SQL core engine. Hope to see index compaction on-premises as well! Also hoping for more love for SSIS but that seems a bit too hopeful. Additionally I enjoyed the session by Rich Benner on SQL Server performance tuning with AI. It included concrete examples on how to communicate with LLM's and additionally warnings about the future how expectations will change in regards to using it. My 3rd day was a bit more techincal than the previous one. I really enjoyed the deep dive in to table partitioning by Margarita Naumova. If there's one thing to remember, it's that partitioning is for data maintenance and it shouldn't be the first or second (or even third) thing to consider for performance problems. Also you're an inspiration for public speakers who do not speak English as their first language! Since I (and many others) have been using Ola Hallengren's scripts for years it was awesome to see someone whose work has been considered "best practice" in person. His demos on latest performance improvements in Microsoft's variety of SQL were easy to follow with succinct explanations. And penultimately I had a short session by Bianca Stratulat on how to transition from an individual contributor to a data leader. It requires a complete shift in the mindset on how to measure personal success and value-add within the team or organization. Hopefully her insight will help more people make the move smoothly and as an IC I selfishly want excellect leaders! Thanks to Linda Gerndorf, Doris Kolga & Softwerk for making it happen! Special thanks to Hanneke P. for sharing her Uber with me!

This makes us truly very happy - enabling people to get to SQLBits who might otherwise not have managed it lies at the heart of everything we do. #SQLBits2026
Let me be proud of this short clip for a moment! ✨ Who says you can't do it all? I brought the kids along to SQLBits, and it was a fantastic experience. 🥰 I’ll admit, I was worried: How would we manage? How would the kids behave? Would they end up in a sibling rivalry showdown over something silly in the middle of a convention center? But the SQLBits team was incredible. They reassured me that bringing 4 kids along can be "Tooned In" perfectly, providing the childcare support that made my attendance possible. The highlights: ✅ Expert Insights: Deep dives into critical Power BI topics with Miguel Félix and Kevin Arnold. ✅ Future Devs: The kids jumped into the "paddling pool" of tech—two of them joined the Code Club and completed their first short projects! ✅ Community: Caught up with some of my favorite data people, Anthony Couzens and Sarah Abnett, and saw Ashley Warren prepping for his session. ✅ Inclusion in Action: Seeing my kids not only welcomed but actually thriving in a professional space. We called it a day a little early because the sun was shining and young minds needed some photosynthesis, too. ☀️ A massive thank you to the SQLBits team for making "the more the merrier" a reality and lightening the mental load for parents in data! #DataFam #SQLBits #PowerBI #Inclusion #WorkLifeBalance #WomenInTech #ParentingInTech

We can never get enough of hearing how you spend your days at SQLBits 2026 - and agree the woodland escape out the back of the magnificent ICC Wales is a game changer!
Day 1 at SQLBits 2026 (a week later!) . A day of training with Reid Havens 🧙🏻♂️and Steve Campbell at Analytic Endeavors provided countless tips and tricks related to Semantic Modelling and Power BI report development. Especially grateful for all the signposting to free and open source tools to support with this such as Measure Killer, the AE PBI Multi-tool, BI Buddy and last but not least, Kurt Buhler's GH repo: data-goblin/power-bi-agentic-development. Also discovered the quiet garden walk at the back of the venue, to get some quiet time when over-stimulated!
