We would love you to join us! On Sunday 7 June, we're marking the close of our 60th anniversary year with a Service of Thanksgiving — and we'd love you to be there. In 1965, a small act of faith brought people together around a shared belief: that no one should face homelessness or addiction alone. Sixty years on, that community is still what we are. We're hosting a Service of Thanksgiving to give thanks for everyone who has been part of our story — and to look ahead together. 🗓 Sunday 7 June 2026 🕔 5pm 📍 St Barnabas Church, Dalston The service will include music from The Choir with No Name and reflections from people who are part of SCT's story. Admission is free. All are welcome. RSVP: https://lnkd.in/eFQYN4He

This is what we mean when we say we are a local charity, in the heart of East London. Sixty years ago, a community of faith opened the doors of a crypt in Spitalfields and Spitalfields Crypt Trust was born. We’re still here. Still showing up everyday. To mark the end of our 60th anniversary year, we’re holding a Service of Thanksgiving on Sunday 7 June — and we’d love you all to be there. All are welcome. We’re proud to announce that we've been awarded funding from the Mayor of London’s Green Roots Fund 🌿 – helping to bring nature back to the city and build a fairer, greener London for everyone. For SCT, this is more than a green space grant. The community garden at St Leonard's in Shoreditch is central to our Training and Development programme, giving people in recovery the chance to learn practical skills, build confidence, and contribute to something that grows, right in the heart of East London. It's already earned a Green Flag Award. This funding helps us keep the garden thriving and our Training and Development programme going. Thank you to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan for supporting not just London's green spaces, but the people who are using them as part of their recovery. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/enZrSkfi

Something our Therapeutic Programme Manager said has stayed with us: "In practice, addiction is often still seen as separate from mental health — and that separation is part of the stigma that the people we support face every day." It's a simple observation. But it points at something that gets overlooked in policy conversations and public debate alike. We've made real progress on mental health stigma in recent years. Most people now understand that depression isn't a character flaw, that anxiety isn't weakness, that you can't just think your way out of a mental health condition. And yet addiction — which the evidence now clearly identifies as a mental health issue — is still treated differently. Officially, addiction is recognised as a mental health issue. In practice, many addiction services are commissioned outside NHS structures — treated separately, funded differently, and experienced by people as a system that places their condition in a different category entirely. The Royal College of Psychiatrists has described the result: "people bounced from one service to another, only being offered support for one condition at a time." Dame Carol Black's government review was equally direct — addiction must be recognised as a chronic health condition, not a moral failing. At SCT, we've been supporting people in recovery from addiction and homelessness in East London since 1965. The people who come to us are not struggling because of bad choices. They're struggling because they're human — and because the thing that once helped them cope became something that started to hurt them. That deserves the same compassion, the same systems, and the same freedom from stigma as any other mental health condition. This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, with its theme of Action, feels like the right moment to ask a little louder: when will our policies, our services, and our public conversation start treating addiction as the mental health issue it is? We've written about this on our website. We'd welcome your thoughts. Find it here: https://lnkd.in/eiecY-CU

Have you ever wanted to run the #LondonMarathon? 🏃 🏃♂️ 🏃♀️ With this Sunday's race about to take over the city, we've been sitting on an announcement that we think a few people in our network will care about quite a lot. Tuesday 28 April, 12pm, we'll share it. It's about the 2027 race, and spots in it for people connected to SCT. If that might be you — or if you know someone it should be — sign up to our email list to be the first to know. Until then, we're wishing everyone running on Sunday good luck! 👉 🔗 https://lnkd.in/diuq2REx

Recovery doesn't happen overnight... and neither does a garden. 🌱 This spring, we're sharing words from members of the SCT community on what recovery really looks like: the patience it takes, the support it needs, and the daily commitment to keep going. Swipe to read their notes. 🗒️👀💙 The community garden in #Shoreditch has been lovingly tended by our residents and students, and it's open for everyone to enjoy this spring and summer. Don't miss out on seeing our spring blooms! If the work we do resonates with you, please consider becoming a regular donor. Every contribution (however small🌱) helps us continue supporting people to find life beyond homelessness and addiction. 👇 Donation link in comments. #AddictionRecovery #LifeBeyondHomelessness #EastLondon #CommunityGarden #Recovery #Homelessness #LondonCharity #CityOfLondon

Thank you to everyone at Foresight Group and Eden Project who came down to help out with our garden! The garden brings joy to people experiencing homelessness and addiction and the wider public, and we can't wait to see everything in bloom 💙
On Eden Project’s 25th birthday today, our development team were in London with a bunch of hardworking volunteers from Foresight Group. We spent the day with Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT) helping them to create a new wildflower area in their community garden right in the middle of Shoreditch. Preparing the ground, sowing seeds and transplanting crocus bulbs. Hoping for a colourful display for people and pollinators and helping to increase biodiversity in the city. SCT is a longstanding charity supporting addiction recovery and the gardens play a massive part in their journey. #natureconnections #corporatevolunteering
