The April Screen Production Index came in with a surprise: 22 XL ($100M+) and 51 L ($35–100M) titles already booked into the production calendar through year-end. Pair that with domestic box office running 15% ahead of last year, and the direction is encouraging. Here's the catch. Our own production industry forecast had Large and Extra Large budgets staying flat through 2030. The industry had other plans. And what's changed isn't whether studios are committing — it's where. California reclaimed share with AB 1138's $750M cap. The UK is locked at 34% AVEC through 2031. Canada and Australia stay uncapped above 40%. Each Large or Extra Large greenlight in 2026 is also a jurisdiction decision. The aggregate looks healthy. The local picture varies by postal code. And David Ellison's commitment to a 30-feature slate post-WBD close has a precedent: Disney made similar promises with Fox in 2019... The trend is up. The map is wider. Where you're standing on it matters more than it did before. Leon Silverman Renard T.
