We are delighted to announce, COPEFRUT SA, one of Chile’s leading fresh fruit producers and exporters, has partnered with Sinclair to adopt our T55 the world’s first fruit label certified for both home and industrial composting as a finished product. This collaboration reflects a shared ambition to reduce single‑use packaging waste without compromising the performance required by modern fresh produce supply chains. “At COPEFRUT SA, sustainability is not an option, it is a responsibility embedded across our orchards, packing operations, and supply chain. This partnership aligns agricultural responsibility with packaging innovation, ensuring fruit is sustainable from production to point of sale.” Felipe Casanova General Manager of Copefrut International The rollout begins in Q3 2026 across apples, plums, and kiwis: ✔️ 50% of production to use home compostable labels by year-end ✔️ 100% adoption targeted in 2027 This initiative supports COPEFRUT SA broader sustainability strategy, focusing on energy efficiency, water recovery, responsible resource use, and waste reduction across its operations. “A compostable fruit label reduces the waste footprint of necessary packaging and simplifies disposal for consumers helping integrate packaging into the circular economy.” Andres Nawrath, MBA, Sales Manager, Copefrut Sinclair T55 goes beyond material claims, it is certified as a finished product to global standards (EN 13432, AS 5810, NFT 51‑800) and engineered to perform in high-speed and high-humidity packaging environments matching conventional label performance. “At Sinclair, we believe sustainability must be proven, not promised. Partnering with growers like COPEFRUT SA shows what’s possible when innovation and responsibility come together to reduce plastic waste in a measurable way.” Duncan Jones, Senior Marketing Manager, Sinclair Together COPEFRUT SA and Sinclair are demonstrating that meaningful sustainability in fresh produce must be integrated, scalable, and measurable from orchard to end-of-life.`

It’s International Compost Awareness Week— a great moment to talk about something that often gets overlooked in packaging sustainability: 'clarity'. In fresh produce, terms like “eco-friendly”, “green”, “sustainable” and especially “compostable” — are widely used. But without context, they can mean very different things to different people. That’s one of the ways greenwashing can creep in: not always through exaggeration, but through over-simplification. What we’re seeing now is a shift from broad claims to clear instructions — for example, moving from “compostable” to “dispose in compost” (where that waste stream exists). But that simplicity on-pack depends entirely on what sits behind it. That’s where independent, third-party certification matters. At Sinclair, our finished product certified compostable fruit labels are tested independently, with results verified by recognized certification bodies including TÜV AUSTRIA Group, DIN CERTCO and Australasian Bioplastics Association One extra point that’s easy to miss: finished-product certification isn’t the same as certifying individual materials (facestock, adhesive, inks) in isolation. Testing the complete label reduces ambiguity and ties claims to real-world performance. The benefit across the supply chain: · Retailers can communicate clearly and reduce the risk of misleading claims. · Growers and packers give operational clarity on performance and disposal pathways. · Brand owners protect long-term trust by grounding messages in verified standards. Because when it comes to composting, clear claims and verified standards help build and protect trust.

With evolving regulations and growing consumer demand for sustainable packaging solutions, certified compostable labels are placed as a smart, scalable step toward the circular economy. "Innovation isn’t just about what’s next - it’s about what’s necessary. Certified compostable labels are our commitment to a smarter, cleaner, and more transparent food system." 🍎 Ever wondered what those numbers on fruit stickers really mean? Those 4 or 5 digit Price Look-up (PLU) codes you see on apples, bananas, avocados and others are part of a global system that keeps the fresh produce supply chain accurate and efficient—from the farm to the checkout. ✅ 4-digit codes = conventionally grown produce ✅ 5-digit codes starting with 9 = organic produce Behind these small labels is a powerful global standard that supports consumer choice, pricing accuracy, inventory management, and global trade. At Sinclair, we’ve been supporting this system for over 40 years with reliable, food-safe, and sustainable produce labeling solutions—designed to perform flawlessly at speed and at scale. Sometimes, the smallest details make the biggest difference. 🌍🍌

Sinclair will be exhibiting with our specialised Greek partners FOODIN at Freskon Expo on the 23-25 April in Thessaloniki. With it only being a couple of weeks away, we caught up with Manolis Giakos to discuss the event and how he has seen the Greek fresh produce market develop over the recent years. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁? FOODIN and Sinclair have been working together for more than 20 years. When we started working with Sinclair labeling fruits in Greece was unknown for the Greek packers. The main fruits back then were apples, peaches, and apricots. One of our first customers was an apple customer who still labels today. The main difference for the Greek market, in the last 7 years is that the kiwi production has increased dramatically and as a result the 80% of labelling in Greece has been for kiwis. 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗲? The last 3-5 years ,we have seen many efforts from the European Union for more sustainable packaging with legislation such as EPR and PPWR. Greece is trying to adapt as a result and many local retailers are using more and more minimized packaging options. Sinclair has always been ahead of the curve with this, as we offer certified industrial and home compostable labels for fruits and vegetables. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲? The future will be based more on sustainable packaging, recyclable products, automation, and branding. We’ll see bigger demand for sustainable packaging and labeling materials, as well as smarter systems that improves efficiency and traceability. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 Freskon Expo? Absolutely! Freskon is always a great opportunity to connect with our partners, see what’s new in the market, and exchange ideas with industry professionals
