Staffing and Recruiting
At Simon James our mission is to provide a straight forward yet comprehensive solution for both candidates and clients.
About us
Simon James IT is an international specialist IT consultancy based in the City of London. Coming from successful consultancy backgrounds we have taken the positive elements of large scale recruitment and built a business model to provide a personalized solution for your recruitment needs. We offer a dedicated service to ensure you get the best possible candidates within both your timescales and budget. Our business has grown organically from building solid foundations within niche technology areas and working closely with organisations. Through success our client base developed and in turn our business evolved with them, to supply a wider range of technologies and skills across multiple sectors. Across the years we have had a number of these clients ask for a more in depth service which would have taken us away from the tailored solution that has made us successful. With this in mind we have created SJ Infrastructure & Technology Services, our independently managed consultancy arm to provide outsourcing for larger projects to meet our client’s needs. This allows us to still concentrate on our core business as a specialised IT recruitment function. Established in 2006 we rapidly created a reputation for providing high quality candidates to a wide range of business sectors whilst remaining a boutique, tailored, personal service. Solely owned and managed by the Directors we guarantee the needs of both client and candidate are not only met but exceeded.

Big Moves in UK Fintech: Exit, Growth, and New Unicorns! It’s been a massive 24 hours for the UK’s financial tech scene. If you haven’t been tracking the headlines, here is the "too long; didn't read" (TL;DR) for your morning coffee: Monzo Refocuses on Home Soil In a strategic pivot, Monzo is exiting the US market. The challenger bank is closing its US operations to double down on UK and European growth. A bold move that signals a shift from global expansion to regional dominance. A New Unicorn Joins the Club Huge congrats to 9fin! The London-based debt market intelligence firm has officially hit "Unicorn" status after a $170M Series C round. With backing from the British Business Bank, it’s a massive win for UK B2B fintech. The Battle for Deposits Heats Up Wise is moving further into "everyday banking," launching interest-earning accounts and direct debits. With Revolut now operating with a full UK banking licence, the competition for our primary bank accounts has never been fiercer. Infrastructure Evolution Swift has officially moved into the build phase for its tokenised deposit ledger. Working with giants like HSBC and NatWest, they are literally building the future of how money moves on the blockchain. We are seeing a "maturation" phase in the industry. It’s less about "growth at all costs" and more about strategic profitability and deep infrastructure. Which of these moves surprised you most? Let’s discuss in the comments! #Fintech #UKTech #Banking #Monzo #9fin #Innovation #LondonTech #SJIT

Senior Data Engineer - London: I have a couple of Data Engineering contracts open, and I have a candidate who is far too strong for any of them. She's worked with me for a number of years, most recently delivering large scale platform for Amazon Web Services, and I'm looking for a similar level of project/client where her expertise would be put to best use. She's a highly experienced Data Engineer with 12+ years delivering large‑scale, cloud‑native data platforms across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Brings deep expertise in building multi‑terabyte architectures, real‑time and batch pipelines, and modernising enterprise data ecosystems. Tech Stack Highlights: AWS (Redshift, EMR, Glue, Kinesis, DMS, Lambda, EKS) Azure (Databricks, Synapse, Stream Analytics, Event Hubs, Data Factory, Cosmos DB) GCP (Dataflow, Dataproc, BigQuery, Pub/Sub) Spark, PySpark, Kafka, Hadoop, dbt, Airflow, Terraform, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Python. Client & Enterprise Experience: Has delivered large‑scale data engineering solutions for leading organisations including Amazon, Barclays, Merck, Virgin Money, NFU Mutual, The Virtual Forge, Prudential, Legal & General, ACS, Metia, NHS, and Sigma Data Systems—covering global data migrations, metadata‑driven architectures, streaming pipelines, cloud data warehousing, and performance optimisation. Ideal Next Role: Best suited for a Senior or Lead Data Engineer position focused on cloud data architecture, high‑scale pipeline engineering, enterprise data platform modernisation, and technical leadership across Spark, Snowflake/Redshift, dbt, and streaming frameworks. For organisations seeking a hands‑on expert capable of leading cloud migrations, building resilient streaming and batch pipelines, and elevating data platforms to production‑ready standards, this profile is an excellent fit. Reach out if you’d like to explore next steps: g.archer@sjit.co.uk #DataEngineer #BigData #AWS #Azure #GCP #Spark #Python #Snowflake #Redshift #DBT EMR #DataBricks #SJIT

Headline: AI Agents, Growth Surges, and a New Regulatory Era The last 48 hours have been a whirlwind for the Fintech ecosystem. If you’ve been offline, here are the 3 big themes you need to know: 1. The Rise of "Agentic Commerce" Visa has officially launched its Agentic Ready programme. We aren’t just talking about chatbots anymore; we’re moving toward a world where AI agents (think your personal digital assistant) can autonomously initiate and settle payments. Major players like Revolut, HSBC UK, and Barclays are already on board. 2. Lithuania: The New Fintech Powerhouse? New data shows that 65% of Lithuanian fintechs expect double-digit growth this year, with a third eyeing a massive 50%+ jump. With seamless EU market access and a pro-innovation regulator, the Baltic hub is proving that "launchpads" can successfully transition into "scale-up bases." 3. The Compliance "Live Phase" is Here As of today (31 March), the UK’s Operational Resilience deadline has passed. The FCA and PRA are no longer just asking for plans—they want live evidence of how firms detect and recover from ICT disruptions. It’s a major shift from "theoretical safety" to "proven resilience." Quick Wins: CyberTech: Huskeys secured an $8m seed round to fix legacy web security. AI for All: New free tools from Ani Tech and UiPath are democratising cash flow and lending analytics for smaller firms. The landscape is moving fast. Are we ready for AI to start "shopping" for us, or is the regulatory burden starting to outweigh the innovation? #Fintech #DigitalBanking #AI #Payments #Regulation #FutureOfFinance #SJIT

AI applied for 100 jobs for me while I slept. I woke up to 100 rejections and a damaged reputation. Here’s why “Auto‑Apply” is becoming one of the biggest traps in today’s job market. As a recruiter, I see this constantly: one candidate applying for more than half of our live roles. On Monday, they’re a Senior Software Engineer. On Tuesday, a Data Engineer. By Wednesday, a Project Manager. The problem? Their CV matches none of these roles. It may include parts of the tech stack, but it’s not aligned with what they actually do. When we ask candidates why this is happening, many say it’s “easier,” or that they’re struggling and trying to boost visibility. But until we speak to them, we genuinely have no idea what they want. Here’s what happens when AI “sprays and prays” for you: • You become a red flag in the ATS. Modern systems identify serial applicants instantly. When someone applies for wildly different roles, it doesn’t read as versatility — it reads as desperation. • You get labelled as unfocused. Applying for jobs you aren’t qualified for signals you don’t value your expertise or can’t compete in the field you’re actually trained for. • You train the algorithm to reject you. Repeated mismatches “teach” filters that your profile equals “not suitable,” making it harder for your CV to surface even when you finally are a match. • Your reputation takes a hit. Recruiters talk. Becoming known as the “bot applicant” who floods vacancies with irrelevant CVs is a hard label to shake. The reality: most hiring managers can now spot AI‑generated applications instantly — and say it makes them less likely to engage. They want to see that you chose their role because your skills genuinely address their needs. Stop outsourcing your career to tools that don’t care about your future. One thoughtful, tailored application is worth a thousand automated submissions. Job Seekers: If you’re using Auto‑Apply tools, are you getting more interviews — or just more automated rejections? “Saving time” means nothing if you’re damaging your standing with the very people you want to work for. Quality will always outperform quantity. Recruiters: How many serial applicants are you seeing each day? Does it make you more or less likely to consider them for roles they are qualified for? Let’s get honest in the comments. #Recruitment #JobSearch #AI #HiringTrends #CareerAdvice #LinkedInTips
