Meet the ShapeBlue presenters! Wei ZHOU's #CloudStackCollab session provides an overview of VNF appliances and showcases some real-world use cases. It also introduces ongoing work on the VNF provider framework, which offers much better integration with VNF appliances. Topics include technical details, the built-in VNF provider, and guidance on how to develop custom VNF providers. https://lnkd.in/gw35YxrT

Apache CloudStack 4.21 shows how the new Extensions Framework can be used to integrate Proxmox VE into CloudStack resource lifecycle management. This blog walks through the built-in Proxmox VE orchestrator, implemented as a lightweight shell script, which handles instance lifecycle operations such as deploy, start, stop, reboot, destroy, and snapshots. While lifecycle actions are delegated to Proxmox, CloudStack continues to manage networking via the Virtual Router, along with ACLs, limits, usage, events, and power state tracking. Unlike traditional hypervisor integrations embedded deep in the CloudStack codebase, the Proxmox integration is implemented as a simple, readable Bash script, making it easy to understand, customise, and extend. The article covers environment preparation, networking requirements, CloudStack configuration, supported operations, limitations, and troubleshooting, providing a practical guide to running Proxmox VE instances under CloudStack control. Apache CloudStack continues to evolve for modern workloads. The 4.21 release introduced native GPU support on KVM, making it far easier to deploy GPU-enabled instances directly through service offerings with no manual workarounds. From AI and machine learning to VDI and high-performance workloads, operators can now attach GPUs to instances, manage quotas and integrate with Kubernetes environments natively within CloudStack. Apache CloudStack enhances backup and disaster recovery with the Create Instance from Backup feature. Users can now deploy new Instances directly from existing Backups while preserving instance metadata, safely remove or change Backup Offerings without losing data, and expunge Instances while keeping Backups usable. Starting with CloudStack 4.22, cross-zone Instance creation is also supported with the NAS backup provider. The blog covers how this works in practice, including usage tracking changes and multi-zone disaster recovery design. https://lnkd.in/gsZty8Hi

Meet the ShapeBlue presenters! Marco Sinhoreli and Harikrishna Patnala's #CloudStackCollab session explored the CloudStack XaaS Extensions Framework! The Extensions Framework in Apache CloudStack enables seamless integration of external services (XaaS) into the CloudStack ecosystem. It allows operators to register and manage custom extensions, supporting a wide range of types such as orchestrators, network elements, and authenticators. Watch the session! https://lnkd.in/gBC5DU2q

Is your organisation ready for open-source? As customer demand for open-source alternatives grows, MSPs and CSPs are being asked tougher questions around control, cost predictability, and long-term sustainability. Adopting open-source infrastructure is not just a technology decision. It requires operational readiness. We’ve created a practical Open-Source Cloud Readiness Self-Check to help service providers evaluate whether they are prepared to design, deploy, and operate open-source cloud environments with confidence. Use it internally, in customer conversations, explaining open-source strategies, or positioning your services in RFPs. Download the checklist! https://lnkd.in/gMH29FDe
