The amended EHRC Code of Practice has been released. Lots of people will make claims about what is and isn’t going to happen as a result, and there will be many different interpretations of the Code in the next few days. We urge everyone not to jump to conclusions. We’re taking time to seek legal advice and understand its impact on trans lives, and on our services. Whatever happens, we’ll never stop creating spaces where trans people thrive and building futures where trans people belong.

    • The amended EHRC Code of Practice has been released today.
This is a document that interprets the Equality Act. It has been revised since last summer, following the judgement in For Women Scot v Scottish Government.
We know that the first draft of the new Code of Practice was cruel, inhumane, and discriminatory towards trans people.
We campaigned for that draft to be rejected and demanded that any new version should be one that fully considered and guaranteed the human rights of all trans...
    • Trans people deserve the same treatment as everyone else, and a Code that cheapens or weakens our rights and protections makes a mockery of the Equality Act and the principles it was built on.
The revised Code will now be laid before Parliament for 40 days, after which it is almost certain to become law.
Lots of people will make claims about what is and isn’t going to happen as a result, and there will be many different interpretations of the Code in the next few days...
  • 📢New blog Backbone Fund: sustaining the conditions for justice, democracy and collective care This year, we’ve made grants totalling £2 million to organisations through our Backbone Fund. The Backbone Fund provides core, long-term funding each year to organisations working across civil society — organisations whose work sustains the conditions for justice, democracy and collective care. This year’s Backbone partners are doing this work in deeply rooted and essential ways: building community assets at a local level, coalition building for a future without racism, and strengthening the infrastructure that supports LGBTQ+ communities. This new blog explores how these organisations are working to hold communities together and safeguard hard-won progress in these uncertain times. • We want to see a just future where everyone can realise their full potential and enjoy fulfilling and creative lives. Focusing on mental health is an important part of this. Every year, many of us experience mental health issues, often linked to injustices, like racism, financial insecurity and xenophobia. We are proud to fund organisations who work in different ways to tackle systemic injustice and to support mental health. This Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to highlight a few of our grant holders who work in this space. 💚 Black Thrive Global seeks to address the inequalities that Black people face throughout their lives which negatively impact their mental health and wellbeing, experiences, and outcomes. Their Research Institute and Observatory works to develop and implement Black-led research and research from a Black-lens to use evidence-based research and policy to undo racial inequities in mental health outcomes and care. https://lnkd.in/eYSQuBEg 💚 Participation and the Practice of Rights is a grassroots human rights organisation based in Belfast that campaigns for economic, social and environmental change. To support people impacted by hostile environment policies, their Kind Economy programme fosters connection, compassion and dignity to support healing and trauma recovery. https://lnkd.in/eiKMwAds 💚 BLAM Charity ( Black Learning Achievement and Mental Health) UK (Black Learning Achievement and Mental Health) is committed to improving the wellbeing of peoples of African descent. They work to improve Black British students' mental health by providing free, specialist advocacy in School Exclusion Appeal Services and by campaigning to embed Black history into the UK education system. https://blamuk.org/

  • Congratulations to Liz Robinson, who has just been appointed Chair of Trustees of the Fair Education Alliance — a cross-sector coalition of organisations tackling educational inequity. For over 20 years, Liz has championed a broader vision of education — a ‘big’ education that integrates ‘head, heart and hand’, and has worked to support innovation across schools and leadership development programmes. Her commitment to a broad and inclusive vision of education is inspiring and strongly aligns with the FEA's work to address the root causes of socioeconomic inequity in education so that all children can thrive. 🎉 We’re delighted to share that Liz Robinson has been appointed Chair of Trustees of the Fair Education Alliance.    Liz brings extensive experience in values-led leadership and system change in education. As a headteacher, trust leader and sector leader for over 20 years, she has championed a broader vision of education - a ‘big’ education that integrates ‘head, heart and hand’, and has worked to support innovation across schools and leadership development programmes.    Reflecting on her appointment, Liz shared: “It is a privilege to take on this role at such an important moment for the Alliance. I’m excited to work with Gina, the team and members across the Alliance to deepen collaboration, challenge the conditions that sustain inequity, and improve outcomes for children and young people.”    🙏 We would like to thank Dr Vanessa Ogden CBE for her leadership and stewardship of the Alliance over the past seven years. We are deeply grateful for the insight and leadership she has brought to our work.    Liz joins the Alliance at an important moment as we continue delivering our Neighbourhood to National strategy, strengthening our collective work, deepening collaboration and working alongside our 300-member coalition to address root causes and improve outcomes for children and young people.    👉 Read more about Liz’s appointment and biography here: https://lnkd.in/gThknzmb    #FairEducation #BoardofTrustees #SystemsChange #NeighbourhoodToNational #Collaboration

  • 🗳️Polls are now open in England, Scotland and Wales for the biggest round of elections since 2024. If you haven't yet — go vote and have a say in the decisions that impact you and your community. And don't forget your voter ID! 🪪 As voting gets underway, we are excited to share this update from The Advocacy Academy, who we support through our Youth Strategic Investment Fund. The Advocacy Academy is a home for youth organising in the UK. They build the power of young people with lived experience of injustice to develop their own political identity, build a community rooted in joy and solidarity, and take action to address the most pressing issues of our time. Their young organisers hosted their first-ever Reverse Hustings at The Liberation Centre ahead of the May 2026 London elections, putting young people in charge of questioning local candidates. The BBC captured the night as 80 young people from youth groups across Lambeth came together to hold power to account, marking a major milestone for youth-led organising in the UK, and what’s possible when young people are given the space, tools, and platform to lead. ✊ Read more: https://lnkd.in/em5x5caR

The Advocacy Academy hosted a Reverse Hustings and made it on BBC London news 🗞️ Instead of candidates leading the conversation, young organisers took the stage. They asked the questions, made the demands, and created a space where power felt tangible, not theoretical. Huge appreciation for the realness, leadership and clarity from Xander H., Zharinck, Aditi Banerjee and Kermarley D. - you make us so proud! Watch to hear more about the significance of the hustings and the local elections to the young people we work with. Thank you to BBC News for capturing youth-led democracy in action. Read more about the event here: https://lnkd.in/em5x5caR Thank you also to our Lambeth community for turning out in numbers and speaking truth to power!
