  • The projects that survive the bear aren't hiring like it's 2021, they've seen enough bad hires to know what they're not looking for. Now they're lean and intentional about hiring, which looks like 'we'd rather wait 6 months for someone exceptional then fill headcount'. If your search isn't getting traction, that's the market you're operating in right now.

  • The return-to-office push hasn't hit crypto yet. Will it? Here's our data. 1. On-site skews heavily finance/risk Every on-site role is a quant, trader, finance manager, risk officer, or controller. The one exception is a Founding Engineer in San Francisco. On-site in crypto = "you're handling serious capital." 2. Engineering is almost entirely remote 35 out of 46 eng roles with a location type = remote. Only 5 hybrid. Developers are building globally distributed protocols and the job structure matches. 3. The "remote" in crypto is timezone-shaped Of the remote roles that did specify a timezone: heavy US (EST, PST, North America), a handful of EU (CET, GMT/BST), some US+EU overlap, and a few APAC/EAT outliers. So remote doesn't mean work whenever. There's still a geography preference baked in. 4. Hybrid roles are a mixed bag CCO, CTO, BD Lead, Investor Relations, Product Designer, Quant Devs. Hybrid tends to be leadership, client-facing, or relationship-building roles.   • A client said something on a call this week that we hear too many times: “We’re managing… but I’m doing the work myself.” They’re hiring for a specialist Product Manager role and tried to fix it internally first by moving a strong engineer into product. It didn’t work. The person was talented, but because some roles need a specific mix of: product judgement stakeholder management and enough domain knowledge to not get lost They got swamped. The hidden cost is outcome of the “temporary cover” that quietly becomes: slower shipping more leadership burnout a team that’s always stretched If your team is “just covering it”, that’s usually the sign the empty role is already costing you more than you think. And not hiring doesn’t remove the cost, it just turns it into a tax on your best people. If you’re hiring and the search is stalling, message us - we can share the signals we use to separate “good on paper” from “can actually own it.”

  • We raised over £3k for charity last week! A bunch of us ran a 10k in partnership with Solana Run Club and Encode Club all to raise funds for a great cause, Spotlight YOPD (Registered Charity UK). They support people living with Young Onset Parkinson’s, and they’re doing seriously important work. We like to back smaller charities where donations actually move the needle. Also: it was really good to see some familiar London crypto faces show up and support. When communities like ours actually come together (instead of just liking posts about doing it), the message travels further. Partnering with Solana Run Club and Encode helped us raise more, but it also amplified the day and gave it a proper buzz from start to finish :) If you’d like to add to the pot, we’re still accepting donations as we continue to raise for them.   • Here is what 90 days of live Plexus vacancies tells us about where crypto hiring is moving > Quant and trading: still the hottest desk. $150k to $400k, consistent demand across prop firms and DeFi. Rust engineers: thin pipeline, premium salaries. $200k to $300k across HFT, trading infra, and smart contracts. AI x crypto: brand new role categories appearing fast. Agentic engineers, applied ML, AI-native product, growing every month. Institutional BD and RWA sales: active at every seniority level. Tokenisation is creating a new specialism. Security: hiring spiked post the recent exploit wave. Protocols that never had a security function are building one now. Finance and ops: crypto companies are professionalising their back office ahead of regulation. The market is moving in specific directions. We have the data to know where.
