Our aim is to eradicate rough sleeping in our community, and to support those without a home to obtain and maintain one.

About us

Our aim is to prevent homelessness. Our mission is to eradicate rough sleeping in our community, and to support those without a permanent home to obtain and maintain one. Pathways is a centre that is a place of acceptance, empowerment and change where clients will be given the help, skills and the confidence to resolve their issues of homelessness. We aim to provide a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental environment that will strive to provide both immediate short term responses to basic needs and long term solutions to more deep rooted problems. On a basic level we will continue to be a place of social contact and shelter, with services such as food provision, emergency clothing and bedding if required. Beyond this we plan to be a place where support staff trained with specialist knowledge and our resident trained nurse can deliver an effective service of constructive and beneficial interventions at the right time and at the client’s pace. Through these interventions we hope to provide a catalyst for change and break the cycle of homelessness. Pathways recognises that maintaining street lifestyles is not appropriate, that better alternatives exist, and that these are attainable for our clients with the right support and guidance. We want to encourage aspirations and hopes to be identified by clients themselves and to give them the structures, the information, and the choices to achieve them. Pathways aims to be a centre where we listen to our clients and where they will be central to the planning and provision of services with an increasing focus on client participation in the decisions that affect their lives. We want to emphasise and encourage the development of our client’s skills and abilities, to focus on what they can achieve, and to promote a culture where our clients can ultimately learn from each other and move on.

  • During past heatwaves, there have been several ways to ease the discomfort of the high temperatures. Staying hydrated, wearing loose, light clothing, enjoying ice lollies, and finding a cool spot at home can all help. Many of us may also fans to improve air circulation. If we want to get out and about, we could head to the coast, host a barbecue, or invite friends over for a social gathering. Now, imagine carrying a large rucksack with all your belongings, the sun beating down, and all you have are the clothes on your back. You’ll need your jumper later as it cools down in the evening. You’re tired, dehydrated, and desperately searching for a tree to find some shade. Hot weather can be just as draining as the cold. That's why we provide sun cream, water, and suitable clothing for the people who rely on our services. If you’d like to help, we will accept water, sun hats, cotton t-shirts and sun cream donations as I am sure that what we have will go. Please note we will take these items at 120 Saltergate and 106 Saltergate between the hours of 9.30 am and 4pm. Thank you in advance!

  • A huge thank you to Brown & Brown for taking part in this amazing event in support of Pathways of Chesterfield! Our lads, Nathan and Paul, did incredibly well — especially considering there was little to no training involved! Every mile was tough, and they definitely felt the pain, but with each step they kept thinking about the people we support and the difference they were making. It was fantastic to see them cross that finish line. While Paul may have said, “I am never doing this again!” 😅 we know his passion for supporting Pathways will continue in many other ways — helping to raise both awareness and essential funds for our work. We are so proud and grateful for your support. Well done, Nathan and Paul! 💪🏃♂️

  • Pathways of Chesterfield proudly celebrated its 20th anniversary on 29th April 2026 at Central Methodist Church Hall. The event brought together staff, volunteers, trustees, partners, supporters, and service users to reflect on two decades of community impact and support across Chesterfield. Guests heard inspiring speeches from the CEO and Chairwoman, highlighting the charity’s journey, achievements, and future ambitions. A special slideshow showcasing memorable moments from the past 20 years reminded everyone of the many lives touched through Pathways’ work. The celebration also provided an opportunity for guests to reconnect, enjoy food and drinks, and celebrate together in a welcoming atmosphere. Seeing service users attend and engage with supporters and staff was a powerful reminder of the importance of the charity’s work. The event marked not only 20 years of achievement, but also the strong community that continues to support Pathways of Chesterfield as it looks ahead to the future.

  • This Earth Day, let’s remember: protecting our planet also means protecting the people on it. 🌍 Homelessness is a global crisis hiding in plain sight. Around 150 million people—about 2% of the world’s population—are homeless. Even more shocking, up to 1.6 billion people (over 20% of humanity) are living without adequate housing, in unsafe or overcrowded conditions. More than 60 million people have been displaced by war, persecution, and instability—making them even more vulnerable to homelessness. Closer to home, homelessness is rising across Europe, with over one million people affected across the UK, France, and Germany combined. Earth Day isn’t just about the environment—it’s about humanity. A sustainable future must include safe, secure housing for all. Let’s care for our planet and each other. 💚 #EarthDay #HousingForAll #EndHomelessness #SustainableFuture

  • Aaron came to us with the police, after being forced to leave his home following an altercation with his father. His father is living with dementia, and over time his behaviour has become increasingly unpredictable and, at times, violent. Aaron had been his carer for years. After losing his mum, it was just the two of them — and that home was everything he knew. Aaron is autistic. He finds independence challenging and relies heavily on routine and familiar surroundings. He’s quiet, avoids eye contact, and is incredibly vulnerable — but when you get him talking about trains, his face lights up with passion and excitement. The incident that brought him to us left him shaken. For his own safety, the police had to remove him from the home. He arrived with nothing but the clothes on his back. In an instant, Aaron lost his home, his routine, and his sense of security. This is how quickly homelessness can happen. Since then, Chesterfield Borough Council have placed Aaron in temporary accommodation in a B&B, giving him a roof over his head while longer-term options are explored. He is now ready for a direct match for a house or flat — somewhere he can finally begin to rebuild stability in his life. At Pathways, we’ve been supporting Aaron with the essentials. He has received toiletries, clothing, shoes, and food to help him through these difficult days. We’ve also worked with him to complete his housing benefit application, along with an income and expenditure form for the council, ensuring everything is in place for his next steps. Once Aaron is settled into a permanent property, we will apply for a DDF to help him access the essential items he needs to turn a house into a home and begin rebuilding his life. Right now, Aaron’s mental health is at an all-time low. The loss of everything familiar has had a profound impact. But with the right support, stability, and a safe place of his own, there is hope for recovery. Everyone deserves a place to feel safe. Aaron is just one of many who need that chance.

  • Our quiet heroes 💛 In the toughest moments, our community shows its true strength—and it’s something that deserves to be celebrated. Time and again, when we reach out, you respond without hesitation. And recently, you showed up in the most incredible ways. When we needed urgent support for funeral costs, provisions, and essential items, you didn’t just help—you rallied. Among you are some truly special “secret angels” who ask for nothing in return, yet give so much. Your generosity and kindness leave us speechless. Ellie, someone we’ve never even met in person, stepped forward and covered the full amount needed for Karina’s funeral within just a couple of hours of our post going live. Alongside that, so so many of you gave what you could—money, compassion, and love—turning a moment of hardship into one of unity. Debbie Munro, a celebrant with a big heart, delivered a deeply moving service completely free of charge. She asked for no recognition yet gave our community something truly priceless. Annette another angel also showed incredible kindness, stepping in to support a homeless woman by funding a night at the Travelodge—an act that has helped her with her recovery, to rest in safety and engage with services. Moments like these are a powerful reminder: even in the face of hardship, suffering, and uncertainty, the people we support are never alone. They are surrounded by an army of compassion—the community of Chesterfield. To every single one of you—thank you. You make this work not just possible, but meaningful beyond words.
