The CfSA Kitemark recognises subject associations demonstrating exemplary practice and sustained impact in supporting teachers and strengthening education. Both the English Association and NSEAD have shown outstanding commitment to their subject communities, providing vital CPD, resources, and advocacy that make a real difference in classrooms across the UK. These organisations embody what subject associations do best: connecting educators, championing subject-specific expertise, and ensuring that teachers have access to the specialist support they need to thrive. As accredited associations for excellence, they join a growing community of organisations setting the standard for subject-specific professional support in education. A new year, a new event, do join us for the first Royal College of Art Creative Education Network event of 2026, where staff from the Education Innovation and Policy Centre Department for Education will be giving a webinar about #Belonging through #CreativeEducation in Schools. Ideas will be shared about how Creative Education Research can be translated into Policy to enact meaningful change and a sense of Belonging for those involved. Please use your voice Raw Marks –please use your voice https://lnkd.in/eEN2fQTx Raw marks, our campaign for change continues with survey #2 Closing today Following Ofqual’s confirmation this summer that there will be no change to the process of giving Raw Marks to art and design students, we need your help. We now know there has been no raw marks evidence gathered by any organisation – we believe evidence is needed to better understand how the process impacts on our workforce and your learners. We need to know when, where and what raw marks appeals are taking place. If you teach GCSE or A level art and design, please complete our second Raw Marks survey by Friday 3 October 2025.

Michele Gregson General secretary and CEO, NSEAD, says: ‘This year, across the UK, we see more pupils achieving the higher grades at GCSE, with an increase in the number reaching Grade A/7+ and much greater proportion achieving a good pass in Art and design compared to all GCSE subjects. We should celebrate the creativity and engagement of our students – and the teachers who inspire them. 'There has been a slight shift in the attainment gap between boys and girls, but girls are still far more likely to achieve a higher grade. 'The gap in attainment for all students that grew during the pandemic – between the independent sector and all state-funded schools – has grown again this year, as has the gap between regions. Where you go to school, and the kind of school you go to, is still a key indicator of outcomes. This needs urgently addressing. Too many children are being left behind.' We want to congratulate ALL teachers for helping young people to achieve their potential. Art and design A level (GCE) entries have decreased very slightly this year, whilst across nearly all grades attainment has risen. However, there is no room for complacency, with gender and some regional variations showing no closure in the attainment gap. Michele Gregson, CEO and general secretary NSEAD, says: ‘No child should have their life chances diminished due to their postcode or address.’ And asks, ‘How can we ensure that all learners are able to shine? We call on the government to help our teachers and members ensure excellent provision and equity of opportunity for all, with real investment in our classrooms, our workforce, and our subject.’ https://lnkd.in/eGix_87S

Interesting report from University of Birmingham ‘Our findings show clearly that it is a myth that anti-racism is being taught ideologically and preventing people from expressing their opinions.’ The research also finds that pupils are more likely to feel encouraged to express their own views and ideas in settings where issues including Black Lives Matter are openly discussed.
