Another brilliant Now Next Product last week, hosted at Rightmove! 🏠 A huge thank you to our speakers for sharing such honest, practical perspectives on building and scaling products across start-ups and large organisations. Some of the ideas that really stayed with us: 'Building a reflection engine' Esra Yetis reminded us that reflection needs to be intentional. Not just venting or reacting, but creating space for critical reflection. Teams who spend 15 mins at the end of their day reflecting on their learnings perform 23% better. Esra took us through the Gibbs Reflective Cycle. Increasing performance by 23% by taking a few moments every day has to be worth a look! 'Navigating growth and change when your startup gets acquired' We loved Grace Tolley-Smith’s warts and all experience of what it’s really like post-acquisition; moving from a scrappy start-up into a corporate environment. The shift from owning bigger decisions to becoming part of someone else’s roadmap brings a lot of ambiguity at the start, alongside more stability and access to brilliant people. It is a huge culture shock and often a period of grieving, but a good reminder that you do not lose one, you trade it for another! 'Trust at the core of product' Rebecca Phillips shared her experience of moving into marketplace payments, where edge cases shape the product and external payment providers are key to building trust, which in itself becomes the product. In some cases, adding perceived friction actually created a better experience for sellers on Depop. A strong reminder that user behaviour is often emotional, not purely rational. 'AI, expectations and reality' Debbie McMahon kicked off with a killer point, we are not normal (!) ~84% have never used AI! Building daily experiences around AI often does not reflect user reality, with a tendency to over-prioritise features and underestimate friction, which can be anxiety-inducing for many users. Ensuring the outcome is clear and trust is not eroded has to stay front of mind. While AI can make things faster and open up entirely new possibilities, there is a balance. Across all talks, a clear theme emerged: bringing people with you, staying close to your users, and holding onto what makes great product teams effective as you scale 📈 Thanks again to everyone who joined us, and to our hosts at Rightmove!

Now Next Product reposted this
Now Next Product had a lovely event again yesterday. The concept of lightning talks itself is a good one and they execute it well. As a first speaker we listened ✨Germán Muñoz and topic was "Why You Should Never Search Alone: Surviving a Job Search in the Age of Layoffs" It is not surprising to see almost anyone in the room had experienced a layoff or at least know someone did. German very well summarized the duality of job search. While searching for a job, it is hard to feelexhausted but also still being have to tell compelling stories. Second speaker Lina Kandinova told us "The Art of Crafting Stories (and why it's a PM superpower!)". My take from her powerful speech is do not be pure engineer or pure emotional. According to the company and your role, find the right balance and set your tone according to audience which is easy to tell but hard to perform. Third one Iliyana F. told us ""My experience in a Product-Led Startup vs BigLaw". Actually I need to say that, I was thinking this will be the less relevant talk for me. But It opened new ideas and gave me new perspectives. My biggest take: Everybody is focusing on 0-1 processes but there is also a world where 10.000 to 1. There is a big world of transformation and simplification and different perspectives. Her talk was based on Law-tech but I also think health-tech and tax-tech are highly relevant and learn from that too. Last one was Adam Carley on "Putting Jobs-to-be-Done in context: where it shines but what it misses." Adam shared valuable feedback on Jobs-to-be-Done perspective. My take is use tools and frameworks but adjust them according to your needs. Tools simplify things but behind these simplifications, do no loose value. And also learn about alternative ways too. Thanks for Nick Cochrane & Adam Goodall & Paul Pechey. I missed the pub part after the event 2nd time. I hope on the 3rd, I will find time to attend.

Are you a time teller or a clock builder? Amanda Horbert, Senior Product Operations Manager at Bentley Systems, urged product people to build systems that empower teams, rather than being the sole source of answers. "A time teller is someone who has their own little pocket watch... versus a clock builder builds that clock," Amanda explained. Democratise information and processes to scale impact. This is an analogy we keep coming back to, we really appreciate Amanda sharing it with us! Hard to do it justice in a post, we recommend checking out Amanda's full talk in the comments👇
