🙌 The second to last station to be completed on the Northumberland Line has opened, allowing you to travel to Newcastle in about 12 minutes. The first train rolled into the new station at Northumberland Park near Backworth shortly after 8:00 on Sunday February 22. 🚉 Bedlington Station - the final station of the project - will open on March 29. Northumberland Park opened to passengers on Sunday and it’s great to see another station come to life on the Northumberland Line. It’s the fifth one to open since December 2024, with Bedlington following later next month. This line has only been running a short time, but it has already passed one million journeys a brilliant achievement. That tells us how much this connection between Ashington and Newcastle matters to the communities it serves and the impact its having. None of this happens without real partnership. Huge credit to colleagues across the Department for Transport, Transport for the North, Nexus and Northern Trains, North Tyneside Council, the North East Combined Authority and Northumberland City Council. Thank you for the graft, the patience and the problem‑solving. We should all feel proud of what this means for local people. I’m looking forward to visiting the new stations and seeing the impact first-hand.
