Luke Littler is the latest sports star to look to registered trade mark law as a way of protecting his likeness from unauthorised commercial exploitation. If I was him, I wouldn't want people using my name or image to sell stuff without my consent either. Would you? By applying to register a portrait photograph of his face as a UK trade mark, he is doing what he can to get more control over the use of something that is - whether people like this or not - a genuinely valuable commercial asset.
