Transforming Drug Delivery to the Central Nervous System | Getting drugs to the brain remains one of the biggest unsolved challenges in medicine. The blood-brain barrier protects the CNS, but it also blocks the vast majority of potential therapies from ever reaching their target. Last month, MDC and the Milner Therapeutics Institute brought together organisations, researchers, industry partners and funders. The workshop focused on identifying projects aligned with real industry needs and mapping collaborative routes to accelerate the development of effective brain therapies. Across nine innovative proposals, the day highlighted emerging approaches to overcome the blood-brain barrier, from advanced human-relevant models to next-generation delivery platforms. Importantly, discussions centred on translational readiness, key development risks, and how academia–industry collaboration can unlock real therapeutic potential. Thank you to the presenters and attendees for their contributions to a great workshop. Following on from our blog yesterday, you can read 'Rupturing endosomes are not created equal' now on our website. https://hubs.li/Q047yH4V0 Our data show that rupture events are not created equal, and that when an endosome ruptures is almost as crucial as if an endosome ruptures. Crucially, the dynamics of endosomal rupture can be programmed by LNP composition. MDC can now track rupture in real time to test if a formulation induces early, productive rupture. This capability not only clarifies fundamental aspects of LNP biology but also empowers developers to fine-tune their delivery system, helping to realise the vast promise of this therapeutic modality. #CRISPR #Nanotherapeutics #LNPs #AdvancedMicroscopy

Really enjoyed co-authoring this piece and our second blog with Dr Prakash Manoharan, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, exploring what truly matters to clinicians when evaluating a radiopharmaceutical data package. As a field, we can often focus heavily on technical performance, but ultimately, clinical decision-making is driven by clarity, confidence and coherence of the data itself. A deeper understanding of radiobiology, alongside diagnostic and therapeutic response, is key to enabling more informed clinical decision-making and intervention. This blog reflects on how stronger, integrated early-stage evidence across imaging, biology and translational endpoints can significantly accelerate decision-making and de-risk development pathways.
