The Female Adventure Grant - subsidised training to get women leading in outdoors roles
Land & Wave is male and female led. Alex and I run it together. A great partnership - where our hopes for the business are in-tune, our ethos is aligned and our personalities help keep each other in check and focused on what's really important. But I've just done some research that made me raise an eyebrow... Of 322 active outdoor activity and adventure companies in the UK, only 37 are led by a woman. That's 15%. Male-led companies outnumber female-led ones nearly four to one. The outdoor industry is one of THE most welcoming, inclusive sectors I know. I've spent 13 years in it and I genuinely love it. So why aren't more women leading businesses in it? (I feel a very long blog emerging about this but I'll save it for another day...) In April, we completed our management buyout of Land & Wave. I'm proud of what we've built and excited about where we're taking it. And I hope that being visible about this, even in a small way, makes leadership in this industry feel a little more possible for someone else. So here's our commitment: the Land & Wave Female Adventure Grant. Three part-funded places on our 15-week Outdoor Instructor Training course - 50% off course fees, meaning successful applicants pay £3,375 instead of £6,750. Food, accommodation and kit are still on you. But we wanted to remove the biggest barrier we could, and turn "I'd love to do that one day" into "I'm doing it right now." The November 2026 cohort is waiting for three brilliant women. Places are limited. If you know someone who should apply then help a girl out and share this. 🌊 https://lnkd.in/dSN4-VZ3 #WomenInBusiness #OutdoorIndustry #WomenInOutdoors #LandAndWave #Dorset #AdventureLeadership
