Pioneering the circular economy for laboratory plastic waste in the research and healthcare sectors.
About us
An estimated 5.5 million tonnes of hazardous plastic waste are generated from laboratories every single year- the current market solution for all this waste is either incineration or disposal to landfill. LabCycle is the first company on the market to recycle this hazardous laboratory plastic waste through application of bespoke recycling technologies in a circular economy mechanism. Every year, research institutions around the world generate 5.5 million tonnes of plastic waste, with less than 1% recycled. Most of it is single‑use lab plastics. LabCycle is changing that. The Bath Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC) continues to turn world‑leading research into tangible solutions through strong industry partnerships and a growing ecosystem of spinouts, including LabCyle. As the UK’s first pilot plant for recycling plastic lab waste, LabCycle aims to recycle up to 80% of these materials and turning contaminated lab plastics into high‑grade pellets that can be remanufactured. #UniversityOfBath #ResearchWithImpact #Sustainability

We’ve been following Founders Jinghui and Colin for the last couple of years as they’ve developed LabCycle, a fully circular solution to laboratory and medical plastic consumable waste. We’re now excited to lead their £1m+ round alongside Angel Investors Bristol and Angel Academe - increasing female investment to scale up their operations and bring their innovation to market. Laboratories around the world generate 5.5 million tonnes of plastic waste annually. Contaminated waste is currently incinerated, producing emissions equivalent to 23 million cars whilst destroying high-grade materials engineered for precision science. The team have developed AutoDecon, the world's first system to safely recycle contaminated lab plastics without high heat or pressure turning pellets back into high grade lab consumables eg waste petri-dish back into a new petri-dish. LabCycle is already operating within the NHS, universities, and private companies, winning CleanTech Startup of the Year and NHS Best Recycling Initiative in 2024. We at QantX are passionate about supporting innovative founders in the South & South West take their technologies out of the lab and into the real world. Local innovation for global impact. Congratulations to Helen and Colin, and the entire team at LabCycle. Learn more: https://labcycle.org Richard Haycock, Roger Killen, Michelle Law, Patric Eriksson, Harry Alexander, Mark Yallop
