About us

We are rewilding pioneers, working with nature to build a sustainable future. Our Purpose is to continue on the journey of process-led rewilding, seeking to encourage further dynamic natural processes by such means as key species reintroductions and varying the management of the large herbivores. We aim to inspire and promote rewilding through evidence-based studies rigorously conducted at Knepp, and through engagement with local communities, NGOs, policy-makers and educators. Rewilding provides the ethical context for all other activities on the Estate.

It's been an exciting March – white storks laid eggs on the Knepp live nest camera, work experience students got stuck in, Weald to Waves learned about managing hedges, Young Guides planned Easter activities across Sussex and shared their rewilding knowledge, we brainstormed nature recovery corridors with a local university, and visited partners in Devon to swap corridor inspiration. There's plenty more to come – follow us as we continue to create and share Wild Hope. 📷 1 Neil Hulme, 6 Ruud van Doorn Knepp Wilding, Weald to Waves, University of Brighton, Ambios Ltd, APRICOT CENTRE WELLBEING SERVICE (CIC)

The Scouts are becoming wilder 🌱 Young Scouts are now getting to experience rewilding thanks to the newly refreshed Scouts Nature Badge in partnership with Rewilding Network member Nattergal Ltd. The badge will encourage Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to spot wildlife, notice seasonal changes and discover how to care for the natural world. Scouts pursuing the badge will have opportunities to visit Nattergal’s Wildlands, including Harold’s Park in Essex, Boothby in Lincolnshire and High Fenn in Norfolk. It’s not the Scouts first foray into the rewilding world either. In 2024, we supported them through our Rewilding Innovation Fund to develop plans to restore nature across four of their Scout Adventures centres, spanning 300 hectares. We’re excited to see how this new badge supports nature and young people. #YouthEngagement #Scouts #Rewilding #YoungRewilders

It’s time to turn quiet frustration into action for nature. Today we launch a new campaign to give nature the voice it deserves. Research by More in Common shows a stark divide public priorities and Government action: 6 in 10 people say the Government cares less about restoring nature than they do personally, just 1 in 5 believe the Government's care for nature is in line with their own. Today is World Rewilding Day! The young people involved in our Wild Futures programme imagined what the world could look like if we embrace rewilding. Students on our school trips pictured beavers creating wetlands, seas teeming with life, and wild spaces where every creature has a home. Our young guides imagined corridors alive with migrating birds, nature that everyone can experience, and a new generation that understands the living world around them. These ideas aren’t out of reach. At Knepp Wilding we have seen how nature can bounce back when given space. If we allow ourselves to imagine a positive future, we can start taking steps to make it happen. Global Rewilding Alliance #WorldRewildingdDay #ChooseOurFuture #WorldRewildingDay2026

🎬 New video: Wellbeing through Rewilding | Fin's story As we approach #WorldRewildingDay, we'll hear some wonderful stories of progress and hope for Nature. This year, we are proud and grateful to share a powerful human story from Boothby Wildland – told by Fin, one of our volunteers, who has faced a long-term battle with diabetes and debilitating mental health challenges. Fin speaks openly about how spending time in Nature, working with our team, and contributing to real habitat recovery has helped him rebuild confidence, purpose and wellbeing. His experience echoes what the evidence shows: - Living near green spaces can reduce the risk of depression by around 16% (British Journal of Psychiatry, 2019). - Natural England’s People and Nature Survey reports 85% of adults say Nature boosts their happiness, and over 90% agree it improves physical and mental health. - NHS Green Social Prescribing highlights a “strong and growing evidence base” for Nature‑based activity improving health outcomes and reducing loneliness. Fin’s journey is a reminder that restoring Nature restores people too. We’re grateful to him for sharing his story so openly – and for everything he brings to Boothby Wildland. 🎥 Film by Gaia Visual - Environmental & Social Impact Photography and Video for Nattergal Rewilding Britain | Rewilding Europe | Global Rewilding Alliance | Knepp Wilding

What role do gardens play in nature recovery? A far greater one than many realise. Earlier this year, Weald to Waves attended the inaugural Wilding Gardens Conference in Manchester – and now we are reflecting on what we took away. Across two days, designers, ecologists, rewilders and policymakers converged on a shared message: gardens are not peripheral to nature recovery, they are central to it. From school grounds to historic estates, every outdoor space is a potential stepping stone in a connected ecological network. Our own Libby Drew presented Sussex's landscape-scale recovery journey to a new audience, placing Weald to Waves within a national conversation about joined-up habitats and community-led change. 🌿Nattergal Partners with The Scouts We’re beyond excited to share that Nattergal has partnered with the Scouts and we’ll soon launch a brand new Scouts Nature Badge. Over the course of our three-year partnership, we’ll be supporting young people in developing practical Nature skills and spending more time outdoors. The refreshed #ScoutsNatureBadge will help Cubs, Scouts and Explorers identify wildlife, notice seasonal changes, explore local green spaces and learn how to care for Nature. 🦉The new badge will be available in May. In the meantime, Scouts groups can begin to organise visits to Nattergal sites for guided walks, wildlife-spotting, practical conservation tasks and a behind-the-scenes look at large-scale restoration in action. 🥾We’re also offering Scouts families 20% off our Wildland tours Connecting communities with Nature is a core part of our mission – and young people are vital to the future of Nature recovery. We look forward to collaborating with The Scouts to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders. For more information or to make a Scouts booking visit https://lnkd.in/enqb7bn4

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, a funder dedicated to improving our natural world, securing a fairer future and strengthening the bonds in communities in the UK. After funding the first phase of the corridor, Esmée are helping us continue this growing collaboration across Sussex – restoring wetlands, hedgerows and species-rich grasslands and reconnecting nature from the Weald to the coast. It is an honour to receive their support, and we look forward to working together to drive the corridor forward. Thank you! If you would like to join this growing movement to build a nature recovery corridor across Sussex, please send us a message.
