Every week, we scour the internet to find all the journalism opportunities we possibly can, collecting them in one place to try and make your life that little bit easier. This week, we've uploaded opportunities from Law.com the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb), BBC Cymru Wales, Our Media, rad Scotland, Art UK and more. I'm thrilled to announce that I've been appointed Deputy Editor of WIRED. I come to the role as a huge fan of WIRED’s reporting in the last couple of years, particularly the incredible work the US team have done on ICE and DOGE. Some of my favourite pieces in recent months include the AI agents coming for your dating life, the integral mysteries of the pelvic floor and life under a digital blackout in Iran - not to mention this week's AI or Die Trying. Now I’m looking for brilliant freelancers in the UK and EU working across technology, politics, science, health, security, culture and beyond. So what will that reporting look like? Across Europe, the political centre is fragmenting as radical movements on both the left and right gain ground. The EU is racing to regulate AI as drone manufacturers are reshaping warfare in Ukraine. Breakthroughs in bioscience are accelerating as vaccine scepticism spreads and the wellness industrial complex grinds on. Defence-tech start-ups are booming, data centres are threatening the green belt and the space race has been privatised. The boundaries between technology, politics and power are collapsing. WIRED’s journalism is about clarity at a time of over-information and exposing the invisible systems behind modern life. Pitch me at rosie_swash@wired.com

Everyone tells you that you need a niche to thrive in freelance journalism — Melita Cameron-Wood is here to tell you that's simply not true. Join our brand new expert masterclass this week for a crash course in earning more money without a specialism and, as always, all tickets are just £7.50 to make sure they're as accessible as possible. We'll be talking through how to define yourself without a niche in a saleable way, for example, do you write about unconventional things, intercultural perspectives, and in-between moments? We'll also explain how to identify publications actively looking for your type of content, and reframing a general approach as a strength rather than a weakness. You leave with plenty of practical advice and inspiration. To grab your ticket, just head to the link below — or drop us a message below and we'll DM you the link. You can also get this event free if you sign up for JR Pitch Club, which comes with tonnes more benefits to help you thrive as a freelancer. If cost is a barrier, just drop us an email on hello@journoresources.org.uk ASAP. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eZ5xMysD #Journalism #FreelanceJournalism #Freelancing

I’m looking for narrative feature pitches for Slate Magazine! I joined Slate this January with a mandate to bring in longform, and in the time since, I’ve edited a true crime yarn with a major third-act twist, an investigation into the radicalization of Southern grandmas in a deep-red Alabama, the Lindy West profile heard round the internet, a hilarious, thoughtful report on the rise of penis injections, and more. (These, and more from my brilliant colleagues, here: https://lnkd.in/e_4uKY5B.) These stories are, as you can see, extremely different!! But they have the same baseline: A good Slate feature takes readers on a ride, challenges their assumptions, and needs at least 3000 words to be told right. It's also, crucially, fun. Slate's a good place for an idea that's too voicey to work anywhere else, that's still supported by rigorous reporting. First-person welcome, white-whale ideas encouraged. Pitch me (not in the Linkedin DMs please!) at leah.prinzivalli@slate.com.

There are just FOUR days left to apply to the senior video journalist apprenticeship with KMTV, which was were our founder and director Jem Collins started her career. It pays £26,500pa and includes a day a week to study your NQJ, which is also fully funded. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/eqnhVHPR #Journalism #JournoJobs #JournalismJobs #TV
Eleven (11!!!) years ago, I was in my first job out of university, getting rained on on the side of the road to make videos for the telly with KMTV. It was a wild experience for someone just out of university — and they're hiring now! Applications for the senior video journalist video apprenticeship close on Friday and I couldn't implore you enough to apply. I truly believe this to be the best local television station and there is nowhere else that will give you this level of experience, both in front of the camera and behind it as a graduate. Several colleagues I worked with have now gone on to senior roles with ITV News, BBC News, Sky News, and more. Telly wasn't for me in the long run, but it gave me confidence and editing years before TikTok-ification, and actually, looking back at these videos, I think I did a pretty decent job. As part of the job you'll get to speak to all sorts of characters: politicians, men who want to start a zoo in their garden, Kate Middleton, octogenarians who could chuck a hammer throw very far. The only reason I didn't film the actual queen is that I had a dodgy takeaway the night before and woke up throwing up at 4am; still gutted, but pleased I didn't throw up on HRH. The gig pays £26,500pa and you'll spend four days a week in the newsroom making telly, and a fifth day working on your NQJ qualification, which they'll pay for and support you through. You'll also be supported by an excellent team; I have so much respect for both bossmen Andy Richards and Ian Carter. I may have been a mere graduate, but both were so generous with their time, know their stuff, and have good journalism as a value they hold dear. Apply here by Friday on Journo Resources!
