Training rarely fades all at once. More often, it’s the small things that quietly slip back as day-to-day pressure returns and routines take over. Even good habits need reinforcing to stick. So here’s a question we often reflect on with teams:

Protecting those who protect us: Reflections from Newcastle🛡️ I’ve just returned from a rewarding few days in Newcastle this week, delivering the IKON Training Breakaway Disengagement Training package to multiple dedicated teams within the The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust It is a disturbing paradox that those who dedicate their lives to healing others are so often met with violence. Our frontline staff deserve to work without the fear of verbal or physical abuse from the very people they are trying to help. During our sessions, we had some incredibly insightful discussions surrounding the challenges staff face on the frontline. We also put theory into action with lots of extensive, hands-on practice using the IKON Training Breakaway Disengagement System. Why this training matters: • Confidence: Empowering staff to manage high-pressure situations with calm and clarity. • Safety: Providing practical, effective techniques to disengage from aggressive and unwanted physical contact safely. • Dignity: Ensuring that both the staff member and the patient are kept safe during a crisis, preserving integrity and promoting an environment of safety and care. It is always an absolute honour and a pleasure to help others feel more confident and safe when delivering vital care and treatment. When our NHS staff feel secure, they can focus on what they do best - healing people and saving lives. Increased demand does not always mean increased need. What we see repeatedly across high-pressure sectors is a spike in enquiries for PMVA Training - often driven by heightened concern about aggression, duty of care, and risk. But physical intervention training is not the starting point for every organisation. PMVA... What is it? Do I need it? It’s a term that’s used widely... but it is not always as clear who needs it, and how it differs from other training. PMVA stands for Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression.
