DEAL DONE - $850,000 fee! Congrats Jo-dee Pearce for earning £180k + commission on a single placement this week! Jo-dee joined us as an experienced hire over a year ago in a new area and it's fair to say it hasn't always been plain sailing for him. One thing about Jo-dee is his grit and determination to succeed. On a personal note it couldn't have happened to a better person. Moments like this remind me what we stand for as a business. We formed H&P to create the highest performing platform across the market, make the largest fees and disrupt all the outdated search firms. We have an even larger deal to hopefully ring later this week which would put us on £7M GP for our fifth year making us the fastest growing search firm across the country. Drinks on you Jo-dee - keep up the great work.

On Tuesday myself, Ricky and Marie had the pleasure of hosting a roundtable event in Brussels with some of our long-standing clients. The event itself covered the everchanging landscape of the EU competition market in Brussels and how already existing firms can remain competitive from a hiring standpoint, with the entrance of US law firms set to continue. So, how exactly can firms compete with some of the largest global names entering the scene? 💸 Flexibility on fee rates - firms that lean more towards the "mid-market" and are more domestic driven usually have the advantage of being able to adjust their fee rates to attract more local clients. This is attractive for lawyers who are looking to push on with business development and for more senior candidates is an attractive USP. 🏡 Maintaining opportunities for hybrid working - since COVID this has been a topic that hasn't left too many people's minds when considering a position in the market. With many large companies recalling people back to the office, it is important for businesses to show that they can offer greater flexibility for people's "out of work commitments" and can often be the decisive factor in someone's career change. 🏋 Enhancing fringe benefits - although these are usually seen as things that employees in general just expect, we are a generation that wants to feel invested into. Time and time again I have worked with candidates, particularly younger associates, who want to work in an environment where they feel like they are getting back more than just the monetary value of their work. Overall, one thing that was very clear to me was that the increase in US activity in Brussels is viewed as quite an exciting time for the market as it brings new opportunities for candidates. It is important for existing firms to play to their strengths of their market positions and the opportunities that they offer in order to both retain and attract talent, but also to remind young and aspiring lawyers of the potential that working in a well positioned European practice can offer. A big thank you to all the clients who came along and for those who couldn't make it, I look forward to catching up soon!

Great talk last night in Brussels on the changing legal landscape in Europe's capital. Thanks to those who participated, including my colleagues John Andrews and Marie Franchi. Some of my key takeaways are : - Fringe benefits of employment are becoming equally important as compensation for younger lawyers. - The EU commission is having to be more practical and less idealistic under the pressures of economic uncertainty and trading/tariff challenges. - The youngest associates care more about learning and development than compensation and flexibility; which are instead priorities for experienced lawyers. - The influx of white shoe law firms to Brussels is likely to sustain 'heightened talent liquidity' for years to come.
