Construction has commenced this week on &Amsterdam, our latest sustainable urban development project in Amsterdam’s Zuidoost district. Constructed by ZÜBLIN Nederland and designed by Powerhouse Company and Rijnboutt, the three buildings will provide a total of 561 new homes, with a mix of social housing, mid-market rental, and private sector. Karin Koks, Managing Director, Portfolio Management, said: “With &Amsterdam, we are building more than just homes. We are making an important contribution to the housing shortage in the city and to the transformation of Amstel III into a lively city district. For Greystar, this is the next step in our long-term vision of sustainable, affordable urban housing." Vincent de Kom, District Executive, City of Amsterdam, said: "The housing challenge for our capital is enormous. Amsterdam Southeast shoulders a significant portion of that challenge. By constructing around 40,000 new homes over the next 20 years, we are creating a city within a city. As a municipality, we can never achieve this alone. Collaboration is key! And that collaboration is clearly visible in the &Amsterdam project. The goal is to keep housing affordable for as broad a group as possible in our district. We are not only focused on the homes themselves, but also on livability and social cohesion in our neighborhoods. We celebrated the first topping out at our site in Bermondsey last week, with contractor McAleer & Rushe, project manager Cumming Group, and architects HTA Design LLP.   Speaking at the event, Jonathon Armstrong, Senior Director, Development, said: "This is a project for the community, delivering 1,624 much needed homes, including 480 affordable units that will contribute to meeting local housing needs.   "It's about unlocking this land and providing a new vibrant, sustainable community, that still recognises the historic significance of the Peak Freans biscuit factory."   Darragh Greenan, Director at McAleer & Rushe, commented: "We are thrilled to celebrate the topping out of Bermondsey 1-5, a key construction milestone in the delivery of a new vibrant and sustainable neighbourhood. Greystar Managing Director, Australia, Matt Woodland recently did a Q&A with Green Street News: Australia. Speaking about The Gladstone in Melbourne, Matt said: "You go through it and see that if it is not the nicest product, then it’s in the top three offerings from a BTR perspective in Melbourne. The location is a key difference. This product in South Melbourne or our other projects in South Yarra, Fitzroy and Kensington are in locations where people want to be. We have acquired a site for 458 apartments in Madrid, from BWRE, with a loan provided by Eldridge Real Estate Credit. Located in Boadilla del Monte, the community will be operated under Greystar’s Be Casa brand, which now boasts a portfolio of over 5,000 homes. Rafael Fernández-Villaverde, Managing Director – Spain, Greystar, said: “Be Casa Boadilla will be our fifth flexible living community in Madrid, and follows the expansion of the Be Casa brand to two new cities.
