Architect and designer Bjarke Ingels told Giant Ideas that he designs under "yes is more": say 'yes' to more constraints in design, you'll get a better result. Syre recently demo'd a Volkswagen car seat made with their own circular polyester. The end result shows what’s possible when we say 'yes' to the need to reduce waste, and say 'yes' to only accepting beautiful design. Syre already have Sage Automotive Interiors and AUNDE Group SE approved materials and things are moving fast. Cars will soon be designed with circularity in mind, and look and feel better than they ever did before.

Today, we announced the launch of Ataraxis Breast CTX, an individualized chemotherapy benefit prediction test, and Ataraxis Tau, a causal inference platform. Ataraxis Breast CTX is the first predictive test for HR+/HER2- breast cancer that does not rely on recurrence risk categories to identify adjuvant chemotherapy benefit. CTX estimates recurrence risk reduction for each patient, and helps find patients who benefit, but also who might still have significant residual risk. CTX was developed using Ataraxis Tau, our causal inference platform. Ataraxis Tau allows AI models to recover treatment effects from real-world, multi-institutional, observational data. Tau is Ataraxis’s AI engine to develop and validate predictive tests across all cancer types. Ataraxis Breast CTX has already been clinically and analytically validated in observational and clinical trial data, and is now available for breast cancer patients as part of Ataraxis Breast suite. • Form Energy are building the world’s biggest battery company. Going beyond lithium, they are building 100-hour "iron-air" batteries to power the world's energy and AI hunger. CEO Mateo Jaramillo spoke to Cameron McLain on Giant Ideas - about the 'gateways' you need to pass as a battery company, and how scalability can only be proved when you reach scale (and why it can't be modelled in a lab). Form Energy recently signed to power Google's new data centre, have shared a big commercial announcement with Crusoe to power their AI data center, and just announced their first international project with FuturEnergy Ireland. CEO Mateo Jaramillo and his team are focused on hard problems. In this conversation he explains why this attracts the best people, why this technology can go the distance, and the future of big tech, battery storage and AI. Listen via link in comments!

  • Episode TWO now out with Jacinda Ardern, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand - on her life lessons. She shares a candid view into the emotional weight of leadership, and explains why stepping down wasn’t about burnout, but knowing when to pass the baton. Jacinda also talks about becoming a mother while in office, learning to let go of control, accepting help, challenging the myth that women must “do it all” alone, life after high office, and why she has “no regrets” Listen via links in comments!

  • When Cameron McLain, Giant Co-founder and Managing Partner, visited a space startup in California recently one thing became clear: in some frontier sectors Europe is not even in the race. For 30 years the world has run on openness: free trade, open borders, global supply chains, and with an open internet. But that era is now fading. Tariffs, techno-national competition and AI consolidation is reshaping the global economy. Power will concentrate in the companies that build the underlying infrastructure - and nations without them risk losing leverage, prosperity, and sovereignty. Europe needs its own foundational technology infrastructure: what we call 'the European Stack', cloud servers (like evroc), energy storage (like Flower), manufacturing capacity, and more. Read more in Cameron's quarterly letter, linked in comments.

Proud to be named a top 100 rising startup in Europe 🌟 For the second year in a row, Flower is highlighted by VivaTech as one of Europe’s most promising tech companies. The list features companies across sectors with the potential to transform their industries, and Flower is one of the few selected companies in the energy category. Great to see such a strong group of Swedish tech frontrunners on the list as well, including rising leaders like Lovable, Legora, and Tandem Health. 🔗 For the full list, see comments. Be sure to meet us in Paris on 17–20 June for the tenth edition of VivaTech, one of Europe’s largest startup and tech events, where Emma Hellström will be representing Flower on site. ⚡

  • How do you lead with compassion, when everything is on fire? Jacinda Ardern, former New Zealand Prime Minister - told us on Giant Ideas how she did it. She says: - Empathetic leadership is a political strength, not a weakness. - Being driven by compassion and purpose can actually make leaders more clear-eyed and decisive, not “dithering or flaky.” - HOW leaders rule, and their integrity, matters as much as what they deliver - Why crisis leadership leaves no time for imposter syndrome - Blaming people in society is just a distraction from politicians not fixing the problems themselves. - Her “path of least regret” decision framework And a lot more. • One in six Americans deal with infertility. Yet for millions of families, the path to treatment is blocked by cost, complexity and months of waiting. Giant portfolio company Sesame has partnered with Costco to expand access to fertility care for 81 million people. Their goal is to make fertility care more accessible, more transparent and dramatically more affordable. Sesame, along with fertility experts IVI RMA GLOBAL, will offer Costco members access to comprehensive fertility care coordination and treatment as well as up to 80% savings on fertility medications with Costco exclusive pricing. This is a major step to making fertility care more accessible and affordable for families. It is particularly important for people without insurance coverage or those paying out of pocket. Patients can speak to Sesame clinicians immediately, rather than waiting three to six months for a first appointment. If further treatment is needed, whether IVF, egg freezing or other options, patients can begin a plan straight away. And they don't have to navigate the system alone. Sesame’s clinicians will stay with the patient through the journey - translating complex medical language, coordinating care and providing emotional support during what can be an overwhelming journey. Sesame's David Goldhill - who had his own daughter through IVF - sees this as an opportunity to offer real medical care and treatment to the many families who are finding this very difficult right now. The program is now available nationwide at https://lnkd.in/dwEvnbmm.

Nick Clegg might be the only person in history to run a top 5 country and company as deputy leader*. In part 2 of our GIANT IDEAS interview we explored what it takes to get to the top and stay there in politics and business. Fascinating lessons and stories I’d never heard from Nick before. 🔨 How the “hammer blows” of his lowest moments, losing the election and his seat as MP, triggered complete career renewal, after which he committed never to talk about past glories (Silicon Valley leaders “didn’t give a sh*t”). 💍 The secrets to a successful marriage (with Miriam) as a power couple: physical resilience and being antisocial to prioritise work and family. 🗳️Why the remorseless pressure of running a country is far, far harder than running a company 🔸 His belief that the coalition government was the best administration in a generation. Search GIANT IDEAS wherever you get your podcasts. YouTube and pod links in comments. * Who did I miss?
