Virtual Production is not a VFX tool. It’s a complete rewriting of the traditional filmmaking pipeline. I was invited to participate in an incredible Cannes Next panel with the team at Megapixel , diving deep into what happens when you take VP from "Page to Pixel." As a producer at Dimension Studio, I’m constantly looking at how real-time tools change the game, but the biggest takeaway from our discussion at Cannes Film Festival? The real shift isn't happening on the LED stage. It’s happening in the writer's room and the production office. A few core insights we tackled: • The Front-Loaded Pipeline: VP forces traditionally siloed departments; writers, line producers, and VFX supervisors into the same room on day one. How exciting is that? • Story vs. Specimen: Does having real-time environments ready early push writers toward massive spectacle too soon, or does it unlock better creative decisions before a single frame is shot? • Who Owns the Image? When final-pixel environments are designed in pre-production, the boundary between director, VFX team, and world-builder blurs into a new kind of hybrid authorship. The consensus? We need to treat VP as a foundational creative paradigm. On 'The Wrecking Crew', Dimension stepped in to deliver an action-packed postvis sequence for an intense highway chase, and delivered multiple previs sequences at speed. In this near 1:1 postvis match to the final, a Chrysler Pacifica is chased by motorbikes and a helicopter on a Honolulu highway, packed with explosions, gunfire, and crashes. Dimension’s team helped maintain the continuity and believability of this high-octane chase sequence with intricate choreography across vehicles, camera, and environment. A brand new time-travelling installation devoted to David Bowie has opened at the Lightroom. Co-directed by Mark Grimmer and Tom Wexler, it marks Journey's fifth production for Lightroom and its first devoted to music. ‘You’re Not Alone’ is an intimate immersive experience that tells Bowie’s story through an ever-changing world of sound, film, and image. Developed in collaboration with the David Bowie Estate and drawing on thousands of hours of material from the David Bowie Archive, the project features landmark performances alongside rare and never-before-seen footage, photography, handwritten lyrics, and personal recordings, tracing Bowie’s work across his life.
