And our purpose is clear: to champion, entertain and bring together our communities. We are home to some of the UK’s best loved media brands that have been the voice of our communities for generations – from the iconic Beano, Stylist and People’s Friend to the UK’s biggest puzzle brand Puzzler and a portfolio of regional newspapers and radio stations including two of the top three best-selling regional dailies in the UK - The Press and Journal and The Courier. We have a thriving genealogy community (Findmypast), a trusted technology solutions business (Brightsolid) and a global marketing agency (Fifth Ring). From our long-established media brand, Energy Voice, an influential authority in the global energy conversation, we launched E-FWD, a membership organisation where the industry’s forward thinkers are coming together to drive the movement to secure, clean energy. We have the influence and ambition to make a real difference towards tackling the critical issues of our time. Assets and knowledge built over decades of supporting high growth, innovative businesses allow us to make bold, long-term visionary decisions. DC Thomson is backing businesses that are making an impact in energy transition, water technology, the circular economy and food security amongst others. Today marks an exciting new chapter for Brightsolid and Synergi. We begin the new financial year aligned as one business, combining strengths where it matters most, while continuing to deliver the specialist expertise both Brightsolid and Synergi are known for. Since acquiring Synergi last April, our focus has been on building a partnership that delivers value for our customers, partners and our people. We’ve taken a considered approach to bringing the businesses together, and we’re proud of how our teams have embraced the journey so far. We’re also pleased to introduce our aligned leadership team: Elaine Maddison (Chief Executive), Alan Gardiner (Chief Commercial Officer), Andy Sinclair (CTO), Paul Burns (Managing Director, Synergi), Craig Paterson (Chief Transformation & Governance Officer), and Josh Murphy CA (Finance Director). We’re looking forward to what comes next.

As our energy brands continue to grow across the UK, our E‑FWD editor Ed Reed is increasingly in demand as a sector expert. This week he joined Naga Munchetty on BBC Radio 5 Live, speaking eloquently about the Middle East crisis and its implications for energy. It’s a great example of our mission to position Energy Voice to cover the UK energy supply chain and E‑FWD to convene it. It was a pleasure to speak today at the NatWest Group Retail COO Conference 2026 in Edinburgh about my own journey in journalism, the work we are doing at DC Thomson and why connection to the communities we serve matters more than ever. Thank you to Judith Cruickshank for the invitation, to Lily Dowling for such a clear brief, and to everyone in the room who asked such thoughtful questions after a great introduction from Sunmisade Ademola. What stayed with me was the importance of the work teams like I met today are doing in helping keep people and communities moving forward. In different ways, that is true both of journalism at its best and of institutions that serve people well. Good discussion, good questions, and a useful reminder that trust, relevance and connection to real communities still count for a great deal. Ps Of course that photo of my grandpa went in Wendy Atkinson #resilience

  • ⛳ A brilliant end to Scottish Golf Tourism Week in association with Luxe Scot last night, with the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards celebrating the people and places powering one of Scotland’s most important industries.   A huge well done to our team (some of who are pictured below) who helped make it all happen!   At DC Thomson, we are proud to support and champion tourism in Scotland. Our Chief Growth Officer, Owen Wyatt summed it up perfectly: “Tourism keeps communities, jobs and local economies alive right across the country, and if we are serious about understanding Scotland’s economy, we have to be serious about the sectors that power it.”   You can check out the full story, including the list of winners and highlights in the comments. 👇

  • Delighted to welcome Mike Soutar back to DC Thomson HQ to revisit where his career in journalism and passion for business and leadership began. A dig into the archives with our chief growth officer Owen Wyatt to find his very first printed prose highlighted just how far his career and growth and innovation at DC Thomson have come.

I’ll never forget the day Mike Soutar interviewed me, so it was a real moment to turn the tables and talk to him about Next Gen CEO, his new book, the journey that shaped him, and the DC Thomson roots in Dundee where it all began. What I love about the video we made yesterday is that the magic of DC Thomson and what makes it such an incredible company literally shines through along with Mike’s passion for our continued innovation and success. For all the reputation he has on The Apprentice, I can honestly say both experiences were just as fun as each other. But when I think back to that first interview, with Mike firing the questions at me, two things got me through: self-belief which we talk about in the video and preparation. Next Gen CEO, published by Pan Macmillan, is available to pre-order now via Amazon the links in the comments.

Over the last few years you will have seen me saying that if you want good local news then you need to pay for it. In the days of print the cover price (the money you paid the shopkeeper when you bought the paper) and advertising paid the wages of the journalists who wrote the stories and the other teams who helped ensure the paper got to market. Now – in an age when most readers access journalism online – it’s your monthly digital subscription as well as advertising that supports the creation of the news, sport and features that appear on our sites and apps every day while print cover price still plays a hugely important role. But why should you pay? Well, without the funding from your digital subs it becomes impossible to produce well-sourced, trusted, and responsible journalism that works to improve our communities by highlighting successes, exposing problems and fighting for change. Today the Press and Journal publishes an in-depth investigation into a well-known businessman with links to Aberdeen and Dundee. Such journalism is expensive to produce. A reporter involved in such a story may work on it for days, weeks or in some cases even months. Legal work also takes places to ensure the report is fair and accurate. That also takes time and costs money. Other publishers may look at such work and argue that the effort isn’t worth the cost. For them, it may be more cost-effective for a reporter to write multiple stories in the time it would take Dale or one of his colleagues to produce an investigation or run a campaign. At The Courier and The Press and Journal we will do what is right for the reader and the community at large. If the story, campaign or investigation is important enough then the effort is always worth it. Craig Walker Dale Haslam Owen Wyatt Tom Miller WAN IFRA Innovate Local https://lnkd.in/efrU5YNj

  • Wonderful to welcome the award-winning author Elizabeth Buchan to DC Thomson to share her thoughts on the role of research, history and women’s voices in shaping contemporary storytelling. Drawing on her experience of using Findmypast, she reflected on discovering her own family history, how she researched her historical novel Two Women in Rome, the responsibility of handling historical facts with care, and why knowledge of the past matters today. Thanks to the team at Findmypast’s Culture Lab for organising a great event to celebrate International Women’s Day, World Book Day and the National Year of Reading.  #GoAllIn2026 #NationalYearOfReading2026 #IWD2026 #InternationalWomensDay #WorldBookDay #LifeatDCThomson

Today marks the official launch of Lessons That Matter. To mark International Women’s Day 2026, we asked a bold question: What do you wish you’d been taught at school? It was an ambitious idea and three extraordinary women chose to be part of it. Simone Biles, Chloe Kelly and Claudia Jessie shared the lessons they wish they’d learned as girls, and the ones they believe the next generation deserves.   From choosing mental wellbeing over medals to valuing real-life connection, these are Stylist’s Lessons That Matter. Informed by insight from ThinkStylist, and co-created with award-winning teachers and YOUNG MINDS, we’ve transformed these stories into practical classroom resources and Key Stage 3 lesson plans, bringing these conversations into the places where they can make the biggest difference: https://lnkd.in/euBVn8UW   Simone’s cover and story landed this morning, with Chloe’s and Claudia’s following tomorrow and Wednesday. Be part of the conversations that matter.
