  • Your CodeYourFuture journey is supported by an incredible network of industry leaders — including Capgemini. Their International Women’s Day event underscored the real, trackable benefits of gender diverse teams. They lean into growth tracks, self-advocacy, and community support. What might that look like for you? Capgemini VP Melanie Christopher put it succinctly at the event: “You have to be the CEO of your own career”. Only you can choose your path, and programs like ours are ready and waiting to support your growth. Our cohorts are 45% female. Women’s History Month is wrapping up with our open call for “Intro to Digital” students. We want to teach you practical skills in AI, data analysis, and coding (and provide a gateway to more advanced training) in only 30 days and help you launch a new chapter in your career. Are you in? https://lnkd.in/d9xa8C92

  • When you join a CodeYourFuture program, you immediately join a cohort of enthusiastic trainees led by passionate and supportive instructors. But, unlike other institutions, our community rallies around your journey, ensuring your success every step of the way. That journey begins with the “Intro to Digital” course. Imagine having coding literacy in only thirty days. That’s what you’ll get with our “Intro to Digital” course, where you’ll learn data analysis, how to code websites, and where to leverage AI. It’s self-paced and flexible, meaning you can take the leap now. It starts April 1 and applications are open. We can’t wait to see you there! https://lnkd.in/d9xa8C92 #CodeYourFuture #Upskilling

  • CodeYourFuture has a new Manchester home at the Manchester Science Park, made possible by an exciting partnership with Bruntwood SciTech. Our trainees are already loving the space. We have dedicated teaching and co-working rooms in the Bright Building, and access on evenings and weekends. It's a space built for collaboration, with wonderful natural light, breakout areas, and a quiet reflection room for anyone who needs it. This partnership goes beyond a venue. Bruntwood are connecting our trainees with employment opportunities and introductions across their network of businesses. As Bruntwood put it: "We have a valuable network we can patch them into and accelerate their impact." Having a world-class space like this makes a massive difference to our community and our outcomes. Check out our photos in the post, and/or take a virtual tour of this wonderful space (link in comments). Thank you, Bruntwood SciTech, for believing in what we do. This is what a fantastic partnership looks like.

🎉 We kicked off our first usability workshop with the London & Glasgow classes at CodeYourFuture yesterday! Big shoutout to Jo Chang, Jom Harnpinijsak, and Yubin Park for co-hosting with me 🙌 really appreciate the support and the chance to run this session for developer trainees. We focused on building products that work well for people from different backgrounds and needs, and how AI can help developers get started quickly and pick up design language. We’re also looking for more volunteers to help run workshops across London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester, and Cape Town for CodeYourFuture. If you would like to contribute, feel free to drop me a message 💬 #volunteering

Yesterday was World Down Syndrome Day (21 March), and I only found out about it then. It got me thinking about my own experiences growing up with a family member who had Down syndrome. When I was younger, I was afraid of letting people know because I didn’t know how others would react to this “difference”. My uncle never had the chance to go to school. Back then in Taiwan, special education was not widely available. But he would spend hours at home filling pages with symbols that no one else could understand. As a kid, I used to wonder what if this was some kind of language we just had not discovered yet. 👽 About 10 years ago, I gave him his first Christmas gift. Just a simple notebook and pen. Nothing fancy, especially at a time when most people had already stopped writing by hand. But he loved it. He started filling the notebook with those same symbols. I still wonder what might have been different if he had the opportunity to go to school. I think that is why accessibility and inclusion matter even more to me now. I am glad I spent the day hosting a usability workshop with Yi Hsuan Wu Jom Harnpinijsak Yubin Park for developer trainees at CodeYourFuture, focusing on building products that are not just easy to use, but inclusive and accessible to people from different backgrounds and conditions. If you are interested in volunteering to run a usability workshop for CodeYourFuture across London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester, and Cape Town in South Africa, we would love to hear from you. (In person would be ideal, but remote works too.) Feel free to drop me a message if you’d like more details. (Left image: a Facebook post I shared 10 years ago. • Great to see our first Basic Online Skills course of the year off to such a flying start! We couldn't do this without the incredible support of Sarah Balachandran, BizEd Projects CIC and Capgemini volunteers. Thank you for your commitment! #basiconlineskills #digitalskills #digitaliteracy

Last week we hosted the first of three CodeYourFuture Basic Digital Skills sessions, facilitated by Capgemini. During the session we explored practical digital skills such as using QR codes to complete online forms, downloading apps, understanding common icons, and using Google Translate. Learners developed these skills by doing, collaborating, and asking questions with their peers. A huge thank you to Sarah Balachandran, Paul Fish, Arjun, and Amanda from Capgemini for volunteering your time to lead the session, and to our own volunteer Sam for supporting our learners throughout. At BizEd Projects CIC providing opportunities for people in Whitchurch, Shropshire and the surrounding areas is incredibly important to us. It was fantastic to see learners grow in confidence during the session - making connections, supporting each other, and learning together. Looking forward to this week’s session! Vicki A. We're looking for a Trustee with a legal background to join the CodeYourFuture Board. CodeYourFuture is a non-profit that provides free tech training and employment support for people who face barriers to meaningful work - people on low incomes, the unemployed, refugees and others. Many of our trainees have gone from years outside the labour market to building thriving careers in software development. This is a chance to help shape the governance of an organisation that changes lives. We're seeking a qualified legal professional - solicitor, barrister, or equivalent - to contribute to board-level governance, risk oversight, and strategic decision-making. This is a governance role, not an operational legal one. You'll be helping the CYF Board make sound decisions, not providing legal services. The commitment is around 6-8 hours per month, primarily remote, with quarterly Board meetings and an annual strategy retreat. If you're looking for meaningful board experience with a mission-driven organisation, we'd love to hear from you. Deadline to apply: Sunday 29th March 2025 - link to the role in the comments
