Clean Break Theatre Company
Non-profit Organization Management
A women’s theatre company changing lives and changing minds – on stage, in prison and in the community.
About us
Clean Break is a women’s theatre company, founded in 1979 by two women in prison who believed in the power of theatre to transform lives. Our vision is of a society where women can realise their full potential, free from criminalisation. We pursue this vision by producing ground-breaking theatre which puts women’s voices at its heart and creates lasting change by challenging injustice in and beyond the criminal justice system. Through theatre workshops and projects in prisons and the community which build confidence, resilience and wellbeing, we transform the lives of women who have experienced the criminal justice system or have been identified as at risk of entering it.

Proud to have had Clean Break’s co-Chair Sarah Jane Dent as one of the incredible women who attended 10 Downing Street this week, calling for more lived experience representation in public appointments 👏 #InternationalWomensDay #IWD #IWD2026 #GiveToGain
What better way to mark International Women’s Day than to bring together some of the most inspiring leaders amongst Agenda Alliance's membership and wider supporters with the No.10 Downing Street Public Appointments team. Public appointments are roles that help oversee the delivery of vital public services, but they do not currently reflect the diversity of talented and innovative women that make up our membership and that we partner with. This International Women’s Day, we want to see that change.
