Africa’s AI opportunity grows stronger when intelligence is built closer to home. Speaking at AI EVERYTHING KENYA x GITEX KENYA yesterday, Adil El Youssefi, SVP, Global Head Co-Location at Cassava Technologies, detailed the infrastructure required to support AI orchestration at scale - from energy and connectivity to compute and interoperability. As AI becomes embedded into critical systems, the conversation is expanding beyond technology itself. The real question is becoming: where does the intelligence live, who governs it, and where does the value it creates stay? For too long, Africa’s digital infrastructure has relied on models where intelligence is built elsewhere and delivered back to the continent as a service. The next chapter looks different. Cassava Technologies, through its Product Areas - Africa Data Centres, Liquid Intelligent Technologies and Cassava AI - is helping build the foundations for sovereign AI infrastructure; from carrier-neutral data centres and connectivity to AI factories designed to bring compute closer to the continent. Meaningful participation in the AI economy requires more than access. It requires infrastructure built in Africa, governed in Africa and designed for Africa. #AIforAfrica #DigitalInfrastructure #TechSovereignty

Africa’s greatest competitive advantage may be the generation coming next. At the Oxford Africa Conference, Ahmed El Beheiry, EVP, Group COO and Group Chief Technology & AI Officer at Cassava Technologies, joined discussions on leadership, AI and the infrastructure shaping Africa’s future and shared a broader perspective: talent alone is not enough. Opportunity must be built. Africa is home to the world’s youngest population, and as AI reshapes the global economy, the defining question is becoming clear: will Africa simply consume the technologies of the future, or help build and shape them? At Cassava Technologies, we believe infrastructure is part of the answer. Over the past two decades, we’ve helped lay the foundations through fibre, data centres, cloud and now AI infrastructure designed to bring compute closer to the continent. Meaningful participation in the AI era requires more than access. It requires the platforms, ecosystems and digital foundations that allow the next generation to build, innovate and compete on equal terms. The future will be shaped by those who build it. #AIforAfrica #DigitalInfrastructure

Africa has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help shape the global AI economy. Speaking during the “Rise of the BOTs: Building Africa’s Infrastructure in the Age of Tech Sovereignty” session at the Africa CEO Forum, our President and Group CEO Hardy Pemhiwa explored a question central to that opportunity: how do we accelerate digital infrastructure at the speed and scale the AI era demands? Over the past two decades, Cassava Technologies has helped lay the foundations for Africa’s digital future; building connectivity, investing in infrastructure and creating platforms designed to support the continent’s next phase of growth. Today, the technologies are proven and the demand is clear. The next chapter is about scale: creating financing models and investment ecosystems that enable digital infrastructure to grow faster and at the level the AI era requires. Because participation in the AI economy requires more than ambition. It requires compute, connectivity and infrastructure built on the continent and designed for the continent. The opportunity is here. The question is how quickly Africa can scale. #AIforAfrica #DigitalInfrastructure #TechSovereignty

Africa’s digital future will be shaped by those who build its foundations. That is why we are honoured to be named Pan-African Champion 2026 at the Africa CEO Forum Awards. This recognition reflects our belief that Africa’s AI and digital future requires more than ambition. It requires infrastructure, investment and long-term commitment built on African soil and on African terms. Over the past two decades, we have worked to build the digital backbone powering the continent - from Africa’s largest independent fibre network to data centres, cloud, cyber security and AI infrastructure designed for the next era of growth. As AI reshapes the global economy, the question is no longer whether Africa participates. It is how Africa participates on its' own terms. Thank you to the Africa CEO Forum and congratulations to all of this year’s winners helping shape Africa’s next chapter. #AfricaCEOForum #AIforAfrica #DigitalInfrastructure

Most AI conversations focus on models, but models alone don’t create transformation. What matters is whether organisations can deploy AI securely, run it at scale, govern it responsibly, and integrate it into real operations. That requires infrastructure, cloud capability, cyber security, and local expertise working together. That’s why our partnership with Anthropic and Google Cloud matters. Through Liquid C2, we’ve been helping bring frontier AI, enterprise cloud, and advanced cybersecurity capabilities to organisations across Africa, supporting the shift from AI experimentation to AI readiness. Africa’s AI future won’t be defined by access alone, it will be defined by what the continent can build, deploy, secure, and scale. Africa's AI moment wont be defined by the models it uses. It will be defined by the engineers, infrastructure and data it builds underneath it. That's the shift Ahmed El Beheiry, EVP, Group COO and Group Chief Tech & AI Officer at Cassava Technologies, will explore in his Gala Dinner address at the Oxford Africa Conference on Saturday 16 May, speaking to the theme “Anchoring Africa: Grounded Leadership in the Age of Disruption.” Earlier that day, Ahmed joins the AI, Innovation & Technology plenary to discuss: ▶️ How digital infrastructure is financed and scaled across the continent ▶️ Where Africa’s next generation of engineers and innovators will come from ▶️ The role of AI in sectors from finance to public services ▶️ How governments approach regulation and data strategy in fast-moving markets ▶️ How African firms navigate global technology competition

How Africa builds its digital infrastructure matters. Who ends up owning it matters more. That’s the conversation our President & Group CEO Hardy Pemhiwa will be joining next week in Kigali at the Africa CEO Forum, on the panel “Rise of the BOTs: Building Africa’s Infrastructure in the Age of Tech Sovereignty.” As the continent scales fibre, data centres, and sovereign cloud, the panel will explore: ▶️ Whether BOT and BOOT models can deliver infrastructure Africa controls long-term ▶️ How governments balance attracting private capital with retaining strategic capability ▶️ Which foundational systems should come first ▶️ What the risk picture looks like for private investors today

Capital flows where there is conviction. Liquid Intelligent Technologies has closed a $660M financing round, including a $300M Eurobond 2.5x oversubscribed in a highly selective market. That level of demand sends a clear signal: Africa’s digital infrastructure story is gaining serious institutional backing. With a 115,000 km network across 25+ countries and growing capabilities in cloud, cyber security and AI, Liquid is operating at the centre of that growth. At Cassava Technologies, we see this as more than a financing milestone. It’s validation of the long-term opportunity to build and scale the infrastructure powering Africa’s digital future. Stronger connectivity. Greater performance. More choice for customers. Africa Data Centres has partnered with ONI-TEL Fibre Networks to enhance data centre connectivity across key facilities in Gauteng, South Africa. Through Oni-Tel’s Infinity fibre interconnection platform, customers in our Midrand and Samrand campuses will benefit from high-speed, low-latency connectivity built for today’s data-intensive environments. This collaboration strengthens our ability to support enterprises as they scale cloud adoption, deploy AI, and manage growing workloads securely and reliably. By expanding our interconnection ecosystem, we’re enabling greater flexibility, improved performance, and seamless scalability for businesses operating in South Africa’s digital economy. As demand for robust digital infrastructure continues to rise, we remain focused on delivering the resilient, carrier-neutral platforms that power innovation across the continent.
