Next week, we’ll be connecting with the public sector counter-fraud community at Counter Fraud 2026. If you’re also attending, don’t miss our talk at 13:40 with HMRC. We’ll be exploring what it takes to modernise OSINT processes in public sector authorities countering fraud and the real-world impact of making these changes. Of course, you can also catch us at stand 24 any time during in the day – we’re keen to hear how you’re using OSINT in the fight against fraud and understand whether we can help you overcome any of the challenges you’re facing. #CounterFraud #FightFraud #PublicSector

In the past, OSINT was a niche discipline – even within public sector. But, as crime moves online and the digital landscape develops, OSINT offers more and more insights into criminal activity. To harness OSINT’s full value in the fight against crime, public sector organisations need to move towards widespread, consistent use. Counter-fraud teams are among those with the most to gain from effective OSINT usage – below, we explore why. #PublicSector #CounterFraud #Fraud Document transcript: 5 Reasons why counter-fraud teams should use OSINT in 2026. 1: Fraud is changing and OSINT is more valuable in countering it than ever before. Increasingly, fraudsters are exploiting online spaces to cause more harm and hiding their identities in more complex ways. Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) is uniquely positioned to help teams combat modern fraud, allowing them to leverage online data, discover new connections and unmask fraudsters. 2: OSINT is essential in meeting public sector counter-fraud targets. OSINT is no longer optional when it comes to gaining a full picture of fraudulent activity. If public sector organisations want to meet their counter-fraud goals, they need to be using OSINT effectively across a variety of teams. 3: Harnessing Open Source Information builds public trust. Anyone can access Open Source Information, including the public and media outlets. If they identify criminality there before public sector organisations do, it can undermine public trust. Effective use of OSINT reduces this risk and increases public trust. 4: Asset recovery has a higher chance of success with wider OSINT use. Asset recovery is both a deterrent for criminals and a resource for fraud-fighters. Widespread, effective OSINT use gives teams a better chance of identifying fraud and recovering assets. 5: OSINT can facilitate better intelligence sharing. Fraudsters operate in networks, and the teams countering them need to be joined up too. OSINT’s publicly available nature can make this more achievable. From time constraints to data access, investigations teams don’t always have the resources to use OSINT to its full potential. And, in some cases, barriers to access are so high that teams can’t harness it at all. Since OSINT is now a crucial resource in understanding criminal activity, these challenges are starting to become real barriers to effectiveness. They must be reduced if these teams are to have maximum impact. Good OSINT technology isn’t about replacing investigators. It’s about enhancing the impact of existing teams in the fight against crime by allowing them to access this crucial source of intelligence. Ten years ago, it might have been enough to equip a select few specialist teams with access to OSINT. But today, more investigations teams need to use OSINT to get a full picture – and technology is the key to achieving this. #OSINT #OSINTForGood #OSINTTools

OSINT isn’t a static discipline – so how can investigators expect it to change in the year ahead? Generative AI, developing regulations and shifting data availability will all play a role in shaping OSINT in 2026, whether that’s by introducing new challenges or creating new opportunities. In either case, learning about these trends now means staying ahead of what’s to come. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eUe-viAW #OSINT #OSINTCommunity #OSINTTools
