We were thrilled to join Philippa Nuttall on the Sustainable Views podcast earlier this month for a wide-ranging conversation on the moment of profound change confronting the business and human rights movement.   Our Executive Director Michael Clements emphasised that despite the challenges ahead, we are still confident that our movement of rights holders, communities and workers - in collaboration with responsible business, investors, and progressive policy-makers alike - can work together to address what are some of the greatest collective action problems we've ever faced.   And to do this, bold business leadership will be needed now more than ever. Economic development associated with mining isn’t the same as shared prosperity – “prosperity” must be defined by the communities affected by projects, and respect for Indigenous Peoples’ right to free, prior and informed consent includes the right to say no.     Indigenous Peoples are disproportionately affected by an unchecked acceleration in mining for transition minerals – we recorded 18 new alleged cases of abuse of Indigenous Peoples’ rights in 2024 alone. In this video, Phinaya community leader Yolanda Quispe tells us why alternatives to mining must be considered.

This February marks the fourth year of Russia’s war against Ukraine – a war aimed at ending Ukraine’s sovereignty and erasing its national identity; a war that continues because Russia still has the resources needed to fuel it, including finances and critical technology, too often facilitated by businesses.   Deprived of either, Russia would be forced to stop.
