BBC Monitoring is closely following the impact of the Iran war on Lebanon as Israeli forces push deeper into the south of the country to target Tehran’s allies in Hezbollah. Drawing on the expertise of our teams covering both countries, we are monitoring official and media narratives around the conflict and its context, and providing expert analysis on several key issues: - How the conflict is exposing internal rifts within Hezbollah and straining its alliances, and how the group is weakened after the 2024 ceasefire deal with Israel - How Hezbollah is managing to maintain its military capabilities despite losses in the war - How large-scale displacement is exposing Lebanon’s deep socio‑economic and political fractures - Why Israel is escalating its campaign against Hezbollah and how this conflict differs from previous rounds If these developments matter to you, request a trial of BBC Monitoring to access our trusted insights and analysis. BBC Monitoring is tracking the response in Latin America to the US Trump administration's "Shield of the Americas" and "Americas Counter Cartel Coalition" initiatives launched on 7 March 2026. These initiatives involve a range of governments in the region in a US-led offensive aimed at "dismantlement of cartels and foreign terrorists operating in the Western Hemisphere". Our Latin America team is looking at: - Cases in which Latin American nations are allowing the presence of US military assets in their territory to participate in operations against drug cartels and criminal gangs. - Reporting in countries which face major drugs and crime challenges, but which have not formally joined the US counter-cartels alliance. - Political and media reaction in the region to the increased deployment of US military assets. - Reports of concrete results from this US-led war on the cartels.
