Everyone wants agentic AI. Not everyone is ready for what that really means. In HR service delivery, the question isn’t whether AI can act. It’s what should it be allowed to do, under what conditions, and with what safeguards. That’s why an autonomy ladder matters: Level 1: inform Level 2: recommend Level 3: draft Level 4: execute with confirmation Level 5: execute with oversight This is the shift HR leaders should make now: stop treating AI like a chat feature and start designing it like an operational capability.
