Big news! aer studios has officially secured a residency at The Sheds - a pioneering creative technology hub in Temple Quarter. The Sheds is a powerhouse for innovation. Backed by the University of Bristol, it brings together industry pros, academics and start ups to build next-gen ideas and products. For us, this means hands-on access to some incredible tech - from advanced AR and immersive workflows to a full Dolby Atmos cinema, as well as space to collaborate with clients and partners from around the UK. This is a massive milestone for aer studios. It not only deepens our partnership with MyWorld - Bristol Bath, but also roots us even more firmly at the heart of the South West’s booming creative tech scene. Last week, at Bath Digital Festival, we hosted a panel event where we posed the question ‘What if we built digital experiences that truly include everyone?’. The topic is undoubtedly complex but the discussion uncovered the blockers that lead to exclusion, as well as presenting the huge social and economic benefits of including a wider audience. Head over to Substack to read our summary of the topics discussed and the commitments made by the audience. https://lnkd.in/eyujqHtv #creativetechnology #inclusivedesign #accessibility #thisstuffmatters

Last night, our Head of People, Culture and Ops, Emily Armstrong was named in the BIMA (British Interactive Media Association) 100 People & Talent category. Since joining aer studios just over a year ago, Emily has transformed the people and culture function, guided by the belief that innovation thrives when people feel supported, knowledge is shared and people have the tools to flourish. Emily has built on areas such as inclusive recruitment and ongoing support structures for neurodivergent team members. She’s organised workshops for mental health awareness, developed people manager training and even rolled out an entirely new digitised people infrastructure. Knowledge sharing is a key part of Emily’s development of the team - and she has the creds to back it up. As an ICF PCC accredited Coach and CIPD Chartered Member, coaching is a central tool in Emily’s support for both emerging talent and leaders. Emily is also using her platform to contribute to meaningful change in the wider creative technology industry, with a focus on how to support and develop the next generation of talent. In an industry moving at unprecedented speed, her role has never been more vital. Congratulations to Emily for joining such a coveted list of inspirational talent. 👏 #BIMA100 #award #peopleandculture #creativetechnology #thisstuffmatters

Yesterday evening aer studios hosted an interactive panel discussion as part of Bath Digital Festival. The topic ‘What if we built digital experiences that include everyone?’ drew an audience interested to learn more and to see where they could play their part. Through live polls on the themes discussed by the panel, the audience shared their perspectives on the goals and barriers surrounding accessibility and inclusive design, as well as the inevitable impact of AI. Our panel discussion was passionate and lively (more to come on this) but here’s a taster of some thoughts shared: Mo Morgan It is important to acknowledge where diversity isn't, but it's also incumbent on everybody then to educate themselves on how we move ahead with that constraint... you don't necessarily have to be part of a community in order to support and represent it. Lucy Collins If we can re-humanise accessibility by working alongside disabled colleagues, have better recruitment processes so that that is happening on a daily basis, and then involve people with lived experience in decision-making, then we remove that othering, we remove the fear, and hopefully we progress—because that's all we want to do here, progress. James H. My dream would be, as an individual, that across devices I have some kind of statement that sort of says, 'These are the things that matter to me, this is how I like to interface with things, this is what I like, how I like to interact,' and that is something that can be used across all the different digital services that I use, and they adapt automatically. Matt Roberts If you are at that lowest point where you think, 'Oh, I'm just done,' like, you're kind of 21 miles into a marathon and everything hurts and even all the signs saying, 'Keep going, you're almost there,' aren’t helping and you still feel like giving up. Don't give up. There are so many people out there that understand you, want to work with you. To close the evening, each member of our audience pledged one commitment that they’re personally making to continue improving inclusion. Today it’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day and we’re looking forward to regrouping to see where people have managed to shift the dial before this time next year. Thanks to our brilliant panel, Scott Ewings for facilitating, Gather Round for hosting and techSPARK uk uk for making Bath Digital Festival happen. Last week two of our team, S'unya Dickman and Wayne Pitts attended All Day Hey! a curated conference for curious developers, designers and technology leaders. Taking place in Leeds, All Day Hey! features talks from some of the industry's finest minds. The single-track conference is carefully curated to suit people working in different areas of creative technology - from software engineers to UX designers or tech team leaders, with inspiring talks and insights. The quality of the sessions reflected the stature of the speakers (real web luminaries!), but what stood out even more was how human and fun they were. Talks by Bramus Van Damme, Jake Archibald, Anjana Vakil and Cassie Evans pushed fundamental web technologies to their limits, and they were inspiring enough that S’unya even refactored his personal blog on the train home! #creativetechnology #developers #conference #softwareengineering #UX
